The Truth Spell (Werewolf High #1)
by Anita Oh
Release Date: November 2015
Summary from Goodreads:
As
soon as I stepped onto the grounds of Amaris High, I knew I'd made a
big mistake. I could never fit in at such a snobbish school – I was more
IT girl than "it girl". But then I saw him.
Sam Spencer. My
childhood best friend. But it couldn't be. Sam Spencer had died three
years ago, on the night that changed everything. I need to know what
happened, why he's suddenly not dead and is hanging out with a bunch of
rich kids.
When
the school is hit by a truth spell, it seems like the perfect chance to
find out what Sam and his creepy new friends are hiding, but the
weirder things get, the less I'm sure I want to know. Even for Sam, even
for the free food, Amaris High might be more trouble than it's worth.
My Review
What a fun start to a new series!! It's all about Lucy going to her new school, where things are completely different that what she thought. It's a rich snooty looking school and her scholarship means following the rules. But when her long lost childhood friend who she thought died shows up, things get wanky and the school has a truth spell put on them, so Lucy begins to investigate all of this. And she will have a lot of shocking reveals thrown at her.
I loved Lucy and Sam. It took her a good bit to figure everything into play but she's quite resourceful. LOL This new scholarship, and this new school is nothing like she is used to. The school has classes- broken into houses- red for poor kids, yellow for rich kids, and gold for elite. Lucy is pretty much bullied by all of those above her. but she is determined to figure out why her supposedly dead best friend is with all these elite students. Sam at first avoids her, because he can't tell her, but when the truth spell kicks in, those elites all start getting sick. They have secrets and because they won't tell the truth, they are affected negative. So this is how Lucy starts to figure out all those secrets. The boarding school that she is at is pretty cool though. And it's got magic and werewolves and some great mystery that keeps the suspense going.
I really enjoyed the writing style of this author. She has a way with words and I loved this story. It was well paced, greatly creative, and I look forward to the next book in the series. And I loved that she made so many funny moments and yet still has some heart breaking serious moments, as well as that totally hawt leader of the elites which just made things sexy, and full of action and suspense. I kept thinking I knew what was going to happen or who was doing what, but I was wrong. It's not predictable at all and I loved that!! I look forward to seeing where these characters are going to go with Lucy and how it's going to play out after that ending. I can't wait for book two!!! Excellent start to this series! 5 PAWS!!
