Happy Book Birthday~ The Boyfriend Bet by Chris Cannon!!

Blog Tour Schedule:

***

The Boyfriend Bet (Boyfriend Chronicles #2)
by Chris Cannon
Genre: YA Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 22nd 2016
Entangled Teen Crush

Summary:
Zoe Cain knows that Grant Evertide is way out of her league. So naturally, she kisses him. Out of spite. Not only is Grant her brother’s number-one nemesis, but he has zero interest in being tied down to one girl. She’s shocked—and secretly thrilled—when they start spending more time together. Non-exclusively, of course, but that doesn’t mean Zoe can’t change his mind, one PDA and after-school detention at a time.
Zoe’s brother claims Grant is trying to make her his “Ringer,” an oh-so-charming tradition where a popular guy dates a non-popular girl until he hooks up with her, then dumps her. Zoe threatens to neuter Grant with hedge clippers if he's lying but Grant swears he isn’t trying to trick her. Still, that doesn’t mean Grant is the commitment type—even if winning a bet is on the line.
Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains multiple PDAs, after-school detentions, and gambling on the side. Warning: betting on a boyfriend is bad for your health.

My Review
If you look at my blog, you'll see my obsession with this author's dragon series!! But man oh man, did she hook me into a contemp YA romance! I won't even lie, this one is hilarious! I fell in love with Zoe and Grant and I really wanted to hug her brother and I wanted to high five her grandma!! And it's not all light either. There's some seriously awesome depth given to these characters.

Ok so Zoe just wants her brother to get off her case, so in front of him, she kisses his enemy. And man do they have a moment. And then another and another. But Grant and Zoe have very different outlooks on life. They also want different things. They even hang out with different people. I totally cheered them on!! And I just kept cringing with their crazy! Lol. After rereading the first book in the series, I was totally ready for this one. With Zoe being a head strong, willful, independent girl and Grant being the hot rich guy every girl wants to date, I never know what could happen but I hoped. I also love that Ms C gave Grant some good redeeming qualities lol. Not unlike my favorite character Jaxon, but totally different concept and series here lol!

Her writing is absolutely flawless as usual and I am alway captivated by her awesome greatness with creating a world I'd actually be ok going back to high school with. It was well played and I loved every minute of it. I had to share the shot gun teasers here and I absolutely think it's a fantastic scene!! I can't wait for book three. I'm (almost) as obsessed with this series and Brynn and friends :) 5 PAWS!!! Thank you Ms C, for being so awesome a writer that you've got me hooked on a genre I didn't like before!!!

Excerpts:

Excerpt 1:
“I liked that dress on you. Sorry it’s ruined,” Brent said as I tossed the hippie frock aside and slipped into a pair of jeans.
The numbing elation of sex had faded. My body hurt like a bus had slammed it.
“As dresses go, I liked it, too.” I reached for the only clean shirt I had left: a black tank top. Just as I was about to pull it on, Brent moved with fast-as-light speed and tossed an arm around my waist. He laid his fingers over the scar from Gabriel’s attack.
I melted into his closeness, wishing he’d never let me leave the cage of his arms. “Gabriel attacked me. You would’ve been proud though. I still ran a half a mile before I realized what had happened.”
Brent’s attention was locked on the scar. It matched the scar on my rib cage where Nicholas Baird had attacked me two years ago. I was beginning to look like a pied animal.
Was it white with pink spots or pink with white spots? One of these days, I would own this evolving look. For now, I felt a little self-conscious.
“I should’ve been here to protect you from them,” he said.
“Doesn’t matter.” I put my hands to his bare chest, the muscle beneath unyielding to my touch. “Errol said something strange last night about Marin. It scares me.”
His hand traveled down the scar and cupped my breast as I breathed with relief. A gentle squeeze reignited feelings in me that would take a lifetime to satisfy. Everything was so fresh that even his hand on my skin forced my knees to buckle. Thank Hades his clutch on my waist was so tenacious.
His lips covered mine before I could tell Brent that Errol, and now I, too, were worried that Marin was actually a Scrivener. Brent didn’t care about what he didn’t know, as his tongue passed over the bridge of my teeth and then between them just as ardently it had as moments ago. This time, I put my arms around his neck to maintain stability.
“We should get downstairs,” I said between kisses.
He backed me into the vanity table and twirled me around to face it. Bent forward, I balanced on my hands as I watched Brent in the mirror, just as naked as before, the muscles of his abdomen flexed. His erection pressed against my jeans.
“I’m not done with you yet, darlin’.”
My Review

I fell in love with this series with book one and I think book two has just cemented that love!! First, yes you will read this book knowing there is another previous book BUT Ms Baker dos a Fabulous job meshing everything out nicely without giving you tedious repeats. AND Ms Baker has added to those goodies. I adore the world she created around death and Reaper’s but she continues to amaze me.

Ollie and Brent are fantastic leading characters and we are seeing new additions as well. Ollie uses her powers to put a death mark on a person and a reaper comes to collect. But Ollie is more than just a death marker, she's a master with added powers and some want her gone forever as she's a threat to their power. We were knocked for a loop in book one and book two picks up after that with Ollie hiding. But that didn't keep. So the bad guy offers her a deal, and the bad guy just keeps making things worse.

The plot is brilliant!! Lots of suspense and betrayal and surprises!! The first book centered around learning Ollie and Brent's powers and their romance, this one has some fantastic action! Probably why I loved it so much- I'm an action junky lol! And be warned- the ending for this one may completely knock you out. I'm still shocked! And now all that is left to say is... What are you waiting for!!!! I love these Reaper’s!! 5 PAWS!!

My review

Ok so I won't lie about how much I love this series but this one may be the.most.epic!!! Yes, one of those most wanted things has happened but maybe it's not just a great thing. We all knew it would eventually happen but not that way and not like this. But anyways I can't talk about that. I need to talk about anna and Logan first. Logan we've known since the beginning, he's always been quiet and a very good soldier to the pack. Loyal. But he knows who his mate is and he blew it so it's messed with him for forever. He uses his pain for his music. Next, anna has been seriously heart broken by what Logan did to her. Really I kinda would have been too. She's also human. Very human. No paranormal knowledge. So we have a lot going against them as mates. And we have Nero and it's getting a little crazy with them. Well Damien and Sebastian are around but I won't give away too much. That little shocker with Damien- we all knew he was still alive somehow- but that- WOAH!! I think it almost blew my mind. Sebastian- well I keep wanting him to figure it out and be a good guy already!

I loved the way Anna stood her ground for a long time against Logan. He needed to work for her forgiveness. She was nicer than I would have been. Lol and her best friend- love her. The brother, well not so much. I can't talk about that either. A good part of the story is the romance of Logan and Anna but there's also a lot not about romance. Things are getting even more complicated with Nero and the situations happening now, be prepared for the crazy. I mean it.

I love that he author can't still keep me fighting for want with this series! I absolutely love it!! I also love that her characters differ and it never feels repetitive. And on top of that I just like her writing that much lol! I'm seriously impressed with where she took this one. And let me just say- oh my God!! YES!!! And oh my God- that might have not been the best idea, though it was- I'm just nervous now :) please please don't make me wait too long, and please let Luke get a mate, he broke my heart at the end. :) 5 PAWS!!!!! Oh please gimme lol :)

Chapter One Excerpt

Logan

Paul jogged onstage with my Gibson. I swapped the electric guitar
for the acoustic and slid the strap over my shoulder. Amazing that I could be
sitting on a cold stool in the hot lights of a open-air college amphitheater
with five thousand screaming fans and still feel so damned alone.

I sucked in a slow breath, my fingers instinctively reaching for
that first chord. My Gibson was my focus. With her in my arms, everything else faded away.

“I love you, Logan!”

I peered into the blinding spotlight and leaned into the mic.
“Love you, too.”

The crowd went ballistic. Tonight was my twenty-third birthday, and I was spending it with my alt-rock band, Logan and the Howlers. We were
finally starting to see some success. Our songs climbed up iTunes charts as
fast as we could release them, and our concert venues were getting bigger
without the backing of a big record label. We were busy.

Even on my birthday.

Luke, my twin brother, was waiting somewhere in the wings. After
the show, we were going to grab a couple of beers to celebrate, and I’d paste
on a smile for my brother. For me, it was just another empty year. As my Pack
brothers each found their mates, the one woman he would ever love, the
ache for mine grew, but unlike the rest of the Pack, there was no hope of me
being with her.

I blew my chance years ago.

Pushing the memories away, I leaned on the stool while the rest of
the Howlers vanished offstage for a water break. This was my song. The crowd
erupted as I strummed the first chord. “Madness in the Moonlight” was still one
of our top selling singles, and a favorite at live performances. My pain on
display.

She haunts my dreams.

Shadows of the past.

Ripping my heart down the seams.

No one to blame but me.

I’m a lone wolf now, but I still stare up at the moon,

Call her name, and wonder if she’s looking, too…

I sat back, letting the crowd finish the chorus, wailing the anger
and rage.

Madness. Madness. Madness.

Wishing won’t change a thing.

Tell that to my fucking heart.

Welcome the pain, feel something.

Got to let her go.

Another verse, another chorus, but as I hit the key change, a
familiar scent, clean and spicy like cinnamon ignited my senses. Oh shit.
From where?

I was the only member of the Howlers who actually howled. Once a
month, the wolf in my soul came forward and I shifted my form, surrendering to
the animalistic part of my spirit. And right now the dormant wolf was clawing
toward my consciousness, no longer content to rest in the background. Even as a
man, my senses were heightened—especially my senses of smell and hearing, but
my vision didn’t suck, either.

I’d performed this song hundreds of times. My fingers found the
chords instinctively, but I almost missed my vocals, stumbling over the next
verse while I scanned the crowd. Finally I turned toward the wings.

In the shadows offstage, my brother Luke waited for me…with a
ghost from my past.

Anna.

Fuck.

I forced myself to face the crowd. This was no time to lose my
shit. What the hell was she doing here? I powered through the ending of
the song and stood to accept the cheers.

Grabbing the hand mic, I tried not to check the wings again.
“Thank you. There’s no place I’d rather be for my birthday!”

A deafening roar erupted from the crowd. “Happy Birthday, Logan”
signs waved back and forth as my bandmates came out to join me, taking the
decibel level even higher. Stryker jogged out, still shirtless, his untamed
long hair bouncing with each stride. The guy was a monster on the drums. He
raised his drumsticks while Levi, tall and slender, pumped his fist from behind
the keyboard.

Levi had a degree in music, and a knack for fleshing out
harmonies. Plus he was our de facto social media manager, saving the rest of us
from being near a computer. We loved him for that.

And finally Zane hustled out with his bass guitar on his shoulder,
waving to fans. He was the “Old Man” of the Howlers. It didn’t help that he
liked to keep his hair slicked back in a 50s pompadour.

Zane stopped next to me. “You okay, man?”

There was no way any regular guy would’ve heard it through the
roar of the audience, but I caught every word. I glanced at the wings, relieved
to see them empty. Maybe I’d imagined her.

Wishful thinking. I’d recognize her scent anywhere.

“I’m good.”

I swapped my Gibson for the electric guitar and hit a chord. The
Howlers had my back, filling the concert hall with a wall of sound, but I
couldn’t lose myself in it this time. Any movement offstage had me jumpy and
tense. This concert couldn’t be over soon enough.

“Night, Logan.” Zane grabbed his guitar case. “Good show, and
happy birthday.”

“Thanks, man.” I dried the sweat from the back of my neck and
tossed the towel in my bag.

Stryker was still dismantling his drum set. We could afford
roadies to do it now, but he got territorial when it came to his drums.

“Later Stryker.”

He looked up, flipping his mop of hair out of his face. “Later.
Have a birthday beer for me.”

“Will do.”

My bandmates had grown accustomed to me being on my own. It was
tough to keep secrets from people you care about, so I kept my distance.

I hit the exit, and her scent assaulted me. Luke sat on the bumper
of my pickup with Anna standing beside him. Their conversation halted as I came
closer. As impossible as it seemed, she was sexier than I remembered, her
curves more pronounced in her tight black dress.

Something inside me came unglued. The wolf howled, filling the
empty space in my chest where my heart should have been.

Luke hopped off the bumper. He kept his dark hair shorter than I
did, and working outside on the horse ranch made his skin a little more tan
than mine. But he wasn’t wearing his faded ranch clothes now. He looked sharp
in his black denim and white T-shirt, trying to impress a ghost from my past.

My eyes narrowed on my brother. “I didn’t know we were bringing
dates.”

He frowned, draping his arm around her shoulder. “Oh, come on.
Vivi’s like family. Did you know she’s staying up in Lake Tahoe right now?”

No, I didn’t know. She haunted every dream, every quiet moment.
Her face fueled my muse.

And if he didn’t stop touching her, I’d go out of my fucking mind.

“Hey Logan.”

Her voice was deep, rich and smooth like melted chocolate. She had
dark eyes that used to see all the way into my soul. Could she see how empty I
was inside now?

I swallowed the lump in my throat and did my best to sound
flippant. “I didn’t know you were a fan of the Howlers, Anna.”

“You don’t get to call me that anymore.” Her brown eyes flashed.
She shook her head and took a step back. “It’s Vivi or Vivianna.”

Not to me.

Her heart was pounding. I didn’t want to hear it. I didn’t want to
hurt her.

Too fucking bad.

She brushed her hair over her shoulder. “And I’m not a fan. I was
here for work.”

I needed to touch her. Clenching my fists, I fought the desire.
I’d never be strong enough to walk away again. She needed to leave me.
Now.

“Were you selling merch?”

Her brow furrowed, her jaw dropping a little. “Seriously?” She
shook her head. “Thanks for reminding me what an asshole you are.”

“Good to see you, too. I’m going to get a beer.” I pinned my
brother with a stare. “I’ll meet you at Lou’s.”

Without waiting for an answer, I put my guitar in the cab. I
should’ve gotten in and driven away, but I turned back one last time.

Anna grabbed Luke’s hand. My brother turned toward her, and
bitterness burned my stomach. Maybe they were on a damn date. The light
from the streetlamp glistened on her long black hair, teasing me. Every angle
of her face tempted me. I hadn’t spoken to her in just over five years, but my
hunger for her hadn’t faded. Far from it.

“Happy Birthday, Logan.” My name sounded cold on her lips, like a
dagger in my chest.

What could I say? I broke her heart, but I’d do it all over again
if it meant her dreams would come true. Our futures were always headed in
opposite directions. I made the right choice.

It took every ounce of my will to get in my truck. I slammed the
door and drove away. Longest damned drive to Lou’s in my life.

The dive bar was dimly lit, with a pool table in the far corner.
The juke box blared “Hotel California” while I nursed my second whiskey, neat.
I sat on a stool in the shadows at the end of the counter. The last thing I was
in the mood for was some drunk chick to recognize me. A few years ago, I tried
to drown my sorrows in fast women and band groupies, but nothing filled the
void Anna left behind.

No amount of no-strings-attached sex was ever going to hold a
candle to making love to her. Ever.

My brother finally walked through the door. I held my breath, but
it didn’t open again. Anna wasn’t with him. The only trace of her was her scent
on his fucking shirt.

“Hey, Logan.” We clasped forearms, the traditional Pack greeting.
“Happy Birthday.”

“Yeah. You, too.”

He glanced at my glass. “Moved on from birthday beer, huh?” He
took the stool next to me. “What the hell happened back there with Vivi? I
thought you’d be happy to see her.”

I growled, downing the last of my whiskey. “I don’t want to talk
about it.”

He ordered a beer then turned my way. “She’s been staying up at
Lake Tahoe with a college friend. I ran into her a couple weeks ago. She’s
never seen you in concert…” He shrugged. “I thought it would be fun.”

Maybe it was her scent on his shirt, or the way she held his hand
as I drove away, but I caught his wrist before I realized what I was doing. My
grip tightened like a vise. “You can have any woman in the world. Not. Her.”

My final words were more animal than man. Luke’s eyes widened, and
I let go of him, dragging a shaky hand back through my hair. My wolf was
dangerously close to the surface, and the full moon was still two weeks away.

“First, we’re just friends, and second, I hate to break it to you,
but you don’t get to call the shots here.” Luke leaned in close. “You dumped
her and never even told her why. She waited for you in her prom dress. You
humiliated her.”

“I was there. I remember.”

He groaned. “She hates you.”

“She should.” My voice cracked as I signaled for another drink.
Anything to kill the ache inside.

“Okay, then why threaten me about seeing her?”

I met his eyes, staring at my mirror image. “Because she’s my
mate.”

His jaw slackened for a second as my words sank in. I wasn’t sure
how I expected him to react, but shoving me back into the bar wasn’t it.

“You selfish prick.” He shook his head and lowered his voice. “How
could you not tell me?”

“What was I going to say?” I took a swallow of my drink. “Anna is
my mate, but we’re too young? It’s complicated?”

“It could have been that simple.” He shook his head. “But you
didn’t trust me to understand.” He slammed his hand on the bar. “Our whole Pack
blew off the stories of one mate for life. You knew it was true all this time,
and you never said anything.”

“You don’t understand.”

“So help me. Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because it was none of your damned business.” I pushed the glass
away. It wasn’t helping anyway. “It was between me and Anna.”

“And five years later, she’s still clueless. You never told her,
either.”

I dug inside the pocket of my jeans and pulled out a few bills.
Slapping them on the bar, I glared at my brother. “I’m not doing this
here.”

He caught my arm. “Logan.”

I sighed and met his eyes. “Yeah.”

“If she’s your mate, then she’s the only one for you.” A crease
formed on his brow as he lowered his voice. “You’re choosing to be alone…forever?”

My gut twisted. “I loved her. I still do. So I’m walking away.” I
yanked free from his grasp. “Just do me a favor and stay out of it. And stay
away from her. The sooner she gets out of town, the better.”

He glanced at his boots, shaking his head. “Good luck with that.”

“What do you mean?”

“She’s got a chance for a staff job at Rolling Stone. Her
dream job.” The bartender set Luke’s beer on the bar. He took a swig and tried
not to smile. “That’s why she came west to stay with her friend. She’s here to
be the first to get an interview with reclusive indie rocker, Logan Reynolds,
from Logan and the Howlers.”

Aw fuck.

Excerpt 2:

The healing burn of the sun pinned Margery to the ground. Her eyes wouldn’t open, but she could see the blazing orange from under her lids. She’d been saved. Pressing her cheek against the sun-warmed grass, she took a deep breath of fresh air for the first time in a week. Coughs racked her body. She was still so weak. A tear leaked out of her eye.
Please don’t cry, chérie. You’re safe here.”
That was the lake dragon. The one who’d helped rescue her. Margery’s hands clutched the ground. She was no longer on the water, trapped in a smuggler’s hold hidden under the deck of a yacht. No longer lying in her own waste, dying a slow and painful death.
Where am I?” she asked, her words coming out as a strangled whisper.
You’re at my home in North Hero, Vermont. It’s very private here.”
He had a sexy way of talking. French Canadian accent, if she wasn’t mistaken. It was comforting, nonthreatening. Margery stretched as the healing sunbeams sank into her core.
Your kidnappers have been brought to justice.”
They were more than kidnappers. In return for pimping Margery out to Champ, they had wanted him to turn a blind eye to their smuggling operation on his lake.
The doll!
Margery bolted upright and regretted it immediately. “Where is it?” she cried. The sun blinded her, but she didn’t care. She groped around with her hands.
What?” he said, panic in his voice.
The Smooshie.”
What the hell is a—” Champ cut himself off and continued in a more polite tone. “I don’t understand, my Queen.”
Queen? Oh, right.
The red dragon doll. I had it in my hand when you rescued me. It’s very important.”
Uh, hold on. Let me check my truck.”
She heard him run.
Great. He probably thought she was an idiot looking for her little dolly.
Rubbing her eyes, Margery tried to stand up. But her legs refused to obey her, muscles trembling as she strained to rise.
The pirates had grabbed her when her camera’s flash malfunctioned and went off while she was taking pictures of their illicit activity—stuffing the dolls with drugs. When they saw her, they tried to kill her. If she’d been human, they would have. But when the bullets tore into her, she had instinctively shifted into her sky dragon form.
She’d only been a dragon for three weeks. Actually, she had always been a dragon, but an ancient curse had stopped her shift at puberty and blocked her dragon magic. When that curse was shattered, all the suppressed Queens shifted into their true forms. It took a lot of getting used to. The first week, all she did was cry and break things. The second week she flew around the world over and over again until sheer exhaustion claimed her. By the time the third week rolled around, Margery figured she’d better get over herself and return to her career as an investigative reporter.

My Review

I absolutely love this series!! It's become so much fun to see how everyone who was "emerged" in dragon form after the curse was broken. I still freaking love seeing viola and Sergei and carolyn and reed. So we see some of our old friends meet up with new friends. Marge- I gave a her a nick name- and Remy Champlain, aka Champ. And we can't forget our not so humble Chinese rock star dragon. It was hilarious seeing him try to be humble which just didn't happen. Lol and we're finally seeing what our bad guy has been doing- stealing drugs to give to humans to further a greedy dragon cause. Can't say more than that thought.

So Champ is a water dragon- his mommy is none other than Nessie!!- and when he helps rescue Marge from the boat that held her captive, he can't help himself, it was his territory she was hurt on so he will protect her while she heals. Yeah they just can't help themselves either, except they have to because so many things get in their way. First, Marge has a form of PTSD, then bad guys try to kill her, then studs are popping up from every corner because she's a new queen, and then because things just happen. Lol! I loved that Marge was her own person, she would never let turning into a dragon queen change her, she's a reporter and she always will be. She's not formal and she will not abide by stupid rules. I loved seeing the three girls together too! And Remy is his own hero. He knows that since Marge is a sky dragon, he can't have her, he's a water dragon, and sky dragons can only mate in one way, and he can't do that. But that doesn't stop him from wanting to give his life to protect hers.

And so we have a very fun adventure, with some enlightening things happening that will effect future books, and on top of that, I am super pumped with what I know now and how things are turning out for the series. I am also thrilled that there's more books coming in the future! YAY!!!! So of course I say, fantastic writing, excellent addition to the series, and I just adore these crazy dragons!! 5 PAWS!!!

And don't miss the rest of the Emerging Queens series:

FBI dragon Reed’s disdain for humans can’t mask the magnetic attraction he has for Carolyn, but when she tells him she’s going to shift into a dragon he thinks she’s crazy. A female hasn’t been hatched, or shape shifted, in over a thousand years. He’s proven wrong after Carolyn shifts and is named the new Queen on the block. When the Cult of Humanity kidnaps Carolyn to sacrifice her, Reed must face his fears—and feelings, racing to save the woman he realizes he can’t live without.

Viola Pierce has never had particularly great luck with guys. That is, until the day she shifts into a glorious, deadly, three-headed dragon. As it turns out, Viola is a dragon Queen. As a rule, Sergei hates Queens, but the Viola's beauty and humanity reach something deep within him. When she names him her protector and consort—quite by accident—a heated and unexpected attraction grows. But the dragon court is ruthless...and what doesn't kill Viola will only make her more dangerous.
