Book Description:

When desire bites, there’s no patience for a slow burn.

While all seems quiet in Gladium Province, the Morgon Guard—the global justice force for the dragon hybrid race—knows their enemy is rebuilding its forces in the underground.

Valla Moonring, an assassin for the Order of the Morgon Guard, is ordered on a mission into the Wastelands of Aria—a formidable, icy wilderness fraught with all manner of dangers, including outlaws, deadly weather, and big-game predators.

To her great distaste, she’s partnered with a Nightwing Security operative, Conn Rowanflame, a Morgon with the aggravating ability to get under her skin. While she takes her mission seriously, Conn’s confident charm throws her off balance, a dangerous place to be in conditions like these. Especially when cold nights require close contact.

Sensual attraction binds them ever closer, igniting a passion of unexpected force—the soulfire. But when the hunters become the hunted, their bond could prove perilous. Even fatal…

Excerpt:

Conn slowed his descent as treetops came into view beyond the fading mist, which had thinned to nearly nothing in the past hour. Whipping open my wings, I landed softly on the hard ground among a grove of evergolds. Even in this frozen tundra, the giants famous for their flora of fire-gold leaves grew tall and thick-branched in abundance. I lifted my visor to a brilliant burst of color that contrasted against the brown earth and snow-swept embankments.
Bowen landed quietly behind me. “How about some lunch before we set out on foot?” He removed and tucked away his visor and unpacked his crossbow from its sheath on his back for the first time on this journey.
“Let’s get into the cover of trees,” said Conn, moving along the natural path. “And lunch sounds perfect.”
“Benta’s breakfast wasn’t enough for you?” I asked, meeting his long stride.
“I always have an appetite, sweetheart.”
“While you two continue flirting, I’ll find some small game nearby. Set up the hotpad over near that big evergold.”
Without a sound, Bowen disappeared into the trees.
“Flirting?” I scoffed. “I wasn’t flirting.”
“I was.” Conn grinned.
“Stop it.”
“I haven’t even gotten started yet.”
“You’re infuriating.”
“So you’ve said before.”
“Listen—” I put up both gloved hands to stop his snarky banter for just one second. “I’m glad we’re finally alone.”
“Me, too.” His lopsided grin made my heart flutter.
Exhaling a frustrated sigh, I stopped under a thick oak with ample coverage from above and unhooked my chest pack before dropping it to the ground. “There’s something I’ve been meaning to talk to you about…about last night.”
“Mmm. Last night.”
He removed his own pack and gloves, then pulled out the small, electronic hotpad. After opening the tripod that kept it off the ground, he turned it on. Gisa ordered us to use the hotpad instead of fire when we were in the open to avoid alerting predators or criminals to our presence.
Conn stood and propped his hands low on his hips. “Would you like a second round?”
“No…no.” I cleared my throat and shook my head, my ponytail sliding on the smooth leather of my jacket. “Actually, that should never have happened. I shouldn’t have let that happen. But I—”
“Couldn’t resist,” he finished, a devilish smile brimming his beautiful face. “It’s okay. It happens a lot.”
“You’re such an ass.” I rolled my eyes. “I could’ve resisted.”
“Could you?”
He broke his rigid stance and sauntered closer, a feral glimmer in his gaze. By instinct, I backed up a step, my wings scraping the rough bark of the evergold behind me. He moved into my personal space.
“What are you doing?” I asked, heart hammering.
He flattened one hand against the tree above my head, his finger grazing the arch of my wing. I shivered.
“Are you sure you could resist?”
I cleared my throat. “Of course,” I said, trying to sound confident, but my voice betrayed me and broke.
“Well…I couldn’t.” He brushed the back of his knuckles along my jaw. I held still, caught.
“Actually, I want to taste you again. Right now.”
Even stone-cold sober, I felt drunk from a single touch, longing to fall back into his arms and let him show me what his hazel-gold eyes promised without a word.
He leaned close, his warm breath grazing my ear.  “Let me taste you again, Valla.”
I planted my hands on his chest, wishing there weren’t the layers of thermal suit and leather between my palms and his rock-hard chest.
He nuzzled the shell of my ear with his nose, then his lips. “Let me.”
His darkened voice pleaded and demanded at the same time, spreading warmth between my legs. What had gotten into me? I pushed him out of my way and stormed toward a densely wooded area.
“Where are you going?” he laughed. “Running away?”
“I’ve gotta go to the bathroom,” I yelled over my shoulder.
“Not by yourself, you’re not.” His footsteps crunched across the thin blanket of snow and leaves behind me.
I whirled, heat burning up my neck, now from anger not lust. “Whoa, there, big boy.” I threw up a hand, halting him several feet away. “Look. You’re not my keeper. And just because we shared one kiss doesn’t mean anything. I’m going to relieve myself by myself. Do you understand?”
His wings twitched at his back. Agitated. Whatever.
“And stop scowling at me,” I called back as I spun and trekked off the path into the brush.

My review
I obsessively adore this author!! I accidentally discovered her when she wrote her veil series- demons and angels and such were awesome. But I think she absolutely stole my heart with her dragons of Morgon series! It's absolutely stunning and she is beyond gifted and I definitely think this series is topping them all. So we meet Kol's sister Valla and Conn both in the previous books but this time, we get their stories and POVs and I loved every second!!
So Valla is a Morgon Guard assassin, and she's damn good at her job. She's worked super hard to get there. And it didn't help that as THE Kol Moonring's little sister, she hasn't had a whole lot of dating experience but she's ok with that, except around Conn Rowanflame. He's cocky, dominant, sexy as hell, and makes her crazy. And he's a lady's man so she doesn't like him, until she figures out she's got him wrongly pegged. And Conn, he really is all of those things, but as a trusted part of Nightwing Security, he also takes his job serious and wants to stop the threats to both human and Morgon kind alike. So when they are sent together with another dragon to track down the horrible monster kidnapping and killing girls, they set out on a quite dangerous journey. The Larkosian army is evil and they want bad things that will destroy the good.
And though it's not light or happy most of the time, no it's dark and gritty and especially sensitive, it's still got some awesomeness that just keeps you glued to the pages! The writing is FANTASIC and Conn has his own humor to supply a little bit of light to the darkness that is plaguing this beautifully built world! And while I'm over the moon with satisfaction over the world building, the award really goes to two other things- spectacular characters and magnificent plots! It's not just Conn and Valla but the whole cast and there's a good bit of them, but if you've read this series, or the series that prequels this one, you'll see the same kids pop in as well as meet new ones. And they are all developed well and feel real! And the plot, holy crap with this new crazy spin on witches and a future of dragons, and Larkos and wow- just wow! I loved seeing the outer areas and tying them together and seeing different kinds of supers. And I think I'm gunna totally love Bastien!! And Bowen, I just want to take him and hug him and hold him tight. He broke my heart. And the little game Bowen, Valla and conn played- major giggle moment. I would say I'm impressed but I'm beyond that- and I KNOW everything Ms Cross writes is phenomenal so I can't argue with my own logic lol! With that said- I'm dying for the next book!! I can't wait to see what's going to happen next with that parting shocker of real dragons! Oh boy oh boy! 5 DRAGON PAWS!!

Ariel Rising by AJ & CS Sparber!

Title: Ariel Rising
Author: Aj & CS Sparber
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Cover Designer: Regina Wamba at Mae I Design & Photography
Hosted by: Lady Amber's PR

Blurb:
My dreams were simple. College, a career, and let’s see what happens from there. But things don’t always go according to plan.

My name is Ari Worthington and I’ve had a very eventful week. A life-changing week. The kind of week that would make the average person whimper.

It started when my ex-boyfriend Luke accosted me in the woods.
How badly was I injured? Not a scratch. And Luke? Not so lucky. Nope, I whupped him good. It surprised the heck out of me. And it probably surprised him, too—once he woke up.

And then I met Davin. Handsome, witty, amazing Davin. Perfect in every way, unless you think being an alien, from a planet called Olympus, might be a liability.

So this is the first book I've read by this husband and wife couple- super cool by the way- and it will most definitely not be the last. AND I'm usually not about the fallen angels but I'm all about them for this one. With a unique spin on fallen angels and their world these authors created, it was pretty darn awesome! I was not expecting so many things that happened and I absolutely love when I'm surprised!!

The two main characters, Davin and Ariel are a fantastic couple. They went perfectly together and I loved watching their relationship grow and I really liked their little banter. Made for some great moments. And while the romance is great, it's also believable and not forced or rushes and felt genuine. And it's not just the main characters, there are several others that are also very well written and I find myself wanting more of them as well.

The world building is great and the writing flowed perfectly. It's paced well and gave me enough mystery and suspense with the romance that I just couldn't put it down. And it's funny too. As well as inspirational without being overly religious and it has a great vibe with friendship blooming and learning about one's  self. So with that said, I really enjoyed this one, and though I didn't go too in depth describing the plot, it's because I don't want to spoil the cool parts! I look forward to the world and these characters growing and I'm definitely gunna snag book two!! 5 PAWS!!

When it comes to being a husband and wife (or wife and husband) writing team, there are advantages, or benefits. Chief among them is that you get to practice the love scenes. He writes, she steers, and…well, it’s fun. He is a software designer and she is a doctor of education. AJ and CS Sparber live in the lovely town of Hudson, Ohio, with their son Ryan, their daughter Melanie, and the spirit of an Aussie shepherd named Hunter.

I don’t want to be alone in the guest suite. It’s not that I’m afraid. I just want Davin close to me. I need the comfort only he can provide.

“I’d rather not sleep alone tonight.”

“Ari, your mother—I promised her.”

“I don’t intend for us to do anything that would cause that promise to be broken. Please?”

He moves to my side and places his hand on my shoulder. “Are you sure?”

I stand up and wrap my arms around his neck. “I’m very sure,” I whisper, speaking directly to his heart. “I want you near me.”

“I know you do. But…”

“No buts,” I say softly. “I’m an angel. And I happen to be in love with you.”

He looks startled. He looks as if he wants to speak, but he can’t find his voice.

“Do you not want me to love you, Davin?”

He arches his brow and stares.

I’m getting worried. Did I just make a complete fool of myself? “Davin?”

His poise seems to return and he smiles. “It happened the night we slept on your sofa—”

“What? What happened?” Did I miss something? Something important?

His smile widens and lights up his eyes. They’re sparkling like jewels.

“I fell in love with you that night.”

My heart flutters and I feel warm all over. “You did?”

He nods slowly. “I did.”

“You didn’t tell me.”

“I wasn’t sure how you felt. Love between two angels is a very powerful force. It is...”

“Forever,” I say, completing his thought. “Are you afraid I don’t understand that? Do you think my human side makes me prone to frivolous fits of infatuation? Because if you do, please allow me to set you straight.” I take a long breath and gaze into his eyes. “I am in love with you, there will never be anyone else, and that’s all there is to it.”

He shakes his head and chuckles.

“What?”

“This is why I love you.”

“It is? What is?”

“I believe the term is moxie. You are bold and fearless. You are spunky.”

“You love me because I’m spunky?”

“Well, that…and because you are kind, and selfless, and brilliant, and very beautiful?”

“You think I’m all that?”

He loses his voice again and just stares.

“Davin?”

“Come here, my Padawan.”

Before I can respond, he laces his fingers through my hair and pulls me tight to his chest. “You are the most extraordinary angel ever born and I…I am the most fortunate.”

He kisses the top of my head, as he whispers, “Forever and never ending.”

His words and his touch make me shudder with ecstasy. “Kiss me, Davin. Kiss me like your life depends on it.”

“It does,” he says, as he captures my upper lip softly between his teeth.

Our kiss deepens and I smile inside, because I realize that each kiss we share seems to be better than the ones before, and we have eons of time and kisses to look forward to.

Brodie's Gamble by Shirleen Davies!

Description

Brodie’s Gamble, Book Two, MacLarens of Boundary Mountain Historical Western Romance Series

“Every book of Shirleen's never fails to draw me in and make it impossible to put down
until I devour it!”

Brodie MacLaren has a dream. He yearns to wear the star—bring the guilty to justice and protect those who are innocent. In his mind, guilty means guilty, even when it includes a beautiful woman who sets his body on edge.

Maggie King lives a nightmare, wanting nothing more than to survive each day and recapture the life stolen from her. Each day she wakes and prays for escape. Taking the one chance she may ever have, Maggie lashes out, unprepared for the rising panic as the man people believe to be her husband lies motionless at her feet.

Deciding innocence and guilt isn’t his job.

Brodie’s orderly, black and white world spins as her story of kidnapping and abuse unfold. The fact nothing adds up as well as his growing attraction to Maggie cause doubts the stoic lawman can’t afford to embrace.

Can a lifetime of believing in absolute right and wrong change in a heartbeat?

Maggie has traded one form of captivity for another. Thoughts of escape consume her, even as feelings for the handsome, unyielding lawman grow.

As events unfold, Brodie must fight more than his attraction. Someone is after Maggie—a real threat who is out to silence her.

He’s challenged on all fronts—until he takes a gamble that could change his life or destroy his heart.

Brodie’s Gamble, book two in the MacLarens of Boundary Mountain historical western romance series, is a full-length novel with an HEA.

Excerpt

“How old were you when you met Stoddard?” He hadn’t meant to ask the question, didn’t need to know more about her than he already did. Maggie’s age didn’t matter. It only mattered that he held her as a suspect in a murder.

“Eighteen. I’m twenty now.” She spoke with a staid calmness, as if detached, speaking of someone else. “I wish I could tell you the time flew by, but that would be a lie.” This time, her voice held the bitterness he expected. Closing her eyes to still the moisture beginning to pool, she sucked in a deep breath.

He didn’t know what triggered his quick response—her shaky voice, the tremble of her body, or the tears she couldn’t hide—but he reached out, wrapping his arms around her and drawing her close. Splaying his hands across her back, he rested his chin on top of her head as she settled her cheek against his chest.

“Shhh, lass. He can no longer hurt you.” Brodie’s heart pounded, his chest tightening at the same time he tried to provide her comfort. He couldn’t imagine the horrors she’d been through. If Arnie weren’t already dead, it would’ve taken all the strength Brodie possessed to not kill the man himself. Feeling the tears soak through his shirt, he drew back, lifting her chin with a finger.

“You must try to believe it will be all right, Maggie.”

Her glassy blue eyes stared up at him as the faintest sliver of hope crossed her face. A hope he could encourage or dash with a rash word or careless gesture.

“Do you truly think it will work out for me?”

Brodie didn’t know what more to say. Instead, he did the most foolish thing imaginable. Lowering his head, he brushed a gentle kiss across her lips, feeling her tense, then relax against him. He kissed her again, losing himself in the taste and feel of her.

Awareness of the colossal mistake he was making sliced through Brodie an instant before he tightened his hold, fitting Maggie snuggly to his body, his lips pressed against hers, claiming her mouth with fierce desire.

Her heart thundered and stomach churned as Brodie continued his gentle assault. The warmth of his body, the hardness of his chest and muscled arms sheltered her at the same time heat ripped through her, as if she were engulfed in a circle of flames.

Brodie couldn’t get her close enough. He wanted to lift her into his arms, carry her to his bed, and lay her down. Kiss every inch of her body, caress…

He pulled back, his abrupt departure causing her to whimper as she buried her face against his throat. They had to stop. He had to stop. The madness, which gripped him moments before, gave way to guilt and self-loathing. How could he have surrendered so completely to the charms of one woman? A woman who’d done nothing except look to him for help?
Setting her aside, he straightened, steeling his features. “We need to go back.” He could see the slight shiver of her body as she swayed toward him. “Now, Miss King. You need to get back in your cell, and I need to get back to my work.”

The hurt in her eyes did nothing to dispel the remorse he felt. He’d crossed a line, and he could blame it on no one except himself.
