My Review

Wow! This is such a cool book. So diesel punk is steam punk but with diesel. It's done so fantastically well here. Oh and not just the writing is awesome. The plot, the characters, the romance, the magic... Wait that's all the writing too hahaha ok fine it's all awesome! 

Ardis is a complete captivating main character. She is full of guys, bravery, a little sarcasm on the side, and complete kick ass female hero!! She's always been looked at differently for having mixed heritage. And yet she uses that for her being an assassin. Well, she has a different job title but still. And she works her butt of for it. And even when it's tough she gets back up and fights back. I loved her. And when she meets Wendel, a necromancer, she's supposed to be disgusted, instead she is attracted. And boy does her attraction take her to a whole nuther level of adventure. Twists and turns from everyone, secrets revealed, a twist at the end that blew my mind. 

The characters were so well written. Wendel, Konstantine, even Natalya, they were all thought out. The world building is absolutely amazing and I can't wait to see what's going to happen in book two. Yes, pretty please hurry along book two!! :) 5 PAWS!!

My Review
I haven't read anything by either of these authors including any of this series, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I live near NOLA, so I am always skeptical with authors who don't live here writing about us natives. LOL but this one was great! Sam is a hilarious character and she's so unique. And she's starting this series off right with some greatness.

Samantha is smart, she's loyal, she's kind, and even if she's a vamper, I loved her. She was human, worked in law enforcement, and then she was turned and now runs her own PI firm. She references her shifter BF but I didn't see him in this one. And I didn't feel like I missed anything from the previous stories with Samantha. The authors did a fantastic job getting me right up to speed without major info dumps. I think I wanna go back and read her other books anyway because I liked her so much. But this one, we get to see her travel back in time to New Orleans, before the war. It's fascinating. All over a missing person's case, she has some trouble in the present with people knowing her, she doesn't know them, until she goes backwards and things start to make sense.

I liked the writing alot. It kept me turning the pages, and I couldn't believe I didn't have one thing to complain about with the NOLA references LOL Yes, I really am very picky. I definitely loved the suspense and mystery that this book is full of. And the crazy vamps around kept me on my toes. I definitely look forward to reading the next book in this series. I gotta know more about Samantha and her family and friends. :) 4.5 PAWS

My Review

What a unique story! We start out in the beginning with a girl who just seems... BLAH. She can't feel anything. Her mother committed suicide because of the ability they share. Sasha should have lost her mind. Felt something. But she can't. She has guardians. Who kind of creep me out by the way. They literally guard her emotions from herself. They keep her from feeling her own emotions because her emotions could end the world... Or at least end lives. 

I loved Sasha one she got those feelings. Noah was an accident to her. She all of a sudden has an overwhelming amount of feelings floating around in her, which she hadn't felt in YEARS! I mean his single finger touching her almost dropped her to her knees. And then, her guardians start becoming a threat to him. I loved how the author made you freak out right along with Sasha. I FELT her emotions when she did. It's a little mind blowing to think about how that must be, to live without feeling. 

The writing is well done, and I really liked this story line. It's not like many things I've read before. That alone kept me reading without stopping. I was so intrigued by how Sasha's powers worked, and what would really happen if she felt something. Anything. So with that, I enjoyed this story. 4.5 PAWS!

Amy Bearce was an Army kid who moved 8 times before she graduated high school.

The one constant in her life was books-particularly fantasy and science fiction-and that hasn’t changed. Despite all the moves, Amy married her high school sweetheart. They met in their junior English class in an American school in Germany in 1991. They have two wonderful daughters and are carefully teaching them to love fantasy and science fiction, too.

A former English and reading elementary and middle school teacher, Amy has recently completed her Masters of Library Science and is excited about a career field with kids, teens, books and technology.

Amy is a homebody with a serious addiction to personality tests, which is not uncommon for an INFP (Myers-Briggs) such as herself. According to the DISC personality test, she is also a perfectionist, a title she hated. She immediately retook the test, changing some answers. When the results came up as Perfectionist again, she took it a third time, changing more answers to get a better result…not even seeing the irony until later.

And yes, the result still came back as “Perfectionist.”

My Review

So after reading the first book, The Curse Merchant, I wanted to see where this was going to continue. Dorian Lake is a fascinating guy with some fun quirks. He curses and hexes, makes charms, and he sure has some lady drama LOL He also has his own personal drama with his soul not being with him. So when an offer turns up to help him find his soul before some big bad does, he is hesitant but knows he needs to do this. 

Dorian is such an interesting character. He always seems mean and sassy, but he's actually quite soft hearted and I think he'd be hilarious in real life, though he'd probably get beat up!  He's struggling with his friend who's the mayor's campaign guy, because ladies keep getting possessed and threatening him. Then he meets a guy who tells him he knows of a girl who can help him get his soul back. And then his best friend's daughter's life gets put on the line for his soul, things heat up. His friends, Julian, Ben, Edgar, they know about his soul, they just don't know exactly how bad this is because Dorian tries to hide it. He'll do almost anything to keep his friends and family safe. And we meet Elle, the little girl, and oh boy is that gunna tear you up. And Dorian is always willing to sacrifice for others. 

The writing is well done. It's mysterious, full of magic, and suspense, and has some great action. And though you probably should read book one, you could read book two without trouble of knowing things from book one. The author adds just the right amount of back story to keep you in the loop without info dumps. It's an emotional book, and you'll want to follow Dorian along with his friends for more. The characters are so real and believable and I know I am going to want more. I can't wait to read the next book! 5 MAGICAL PAWS!
