About The Keeper (Crossing Realms #1):
Nick Geary, jaded clan leader of human guardians, the Keepers, is doomed to love a human woman who’s forgotten him, time after time, for thirteen years: Libby Klink, a skittish accountant who’s as terrified of her recent and strange intuitions as she is of her mundane existence.
When Nick is ordered by the clan’s guiding force to seek Libby’s help in defending the clan against enemy Betrayers, romance sizzles as the pair forms an unlikely alliance in their desperate search to discover the key to the clan’s salvation—which Libby alone holds.
But a haunting secret could cost Nick everything, and in a race against time, both will be forced to choose between their hearts and duty. Can their love, and the clan survive, or will the very forces that drew them together ultimately destroy them?
The battle in the Steel City begins.

Her index finger found the button and lowered the window a crack.
Immediately, he raised his hands. “I’m not going to hurt you. I’m unarmed.”
Always good to hear. She cocked her head, perplexed. “Who are you?”
“Nick Geary.” Unsmiling, a muscle worked in his jaw. He held her hostage with his eyes. “We need to talk.”
Her heart tripped. No doubt about it. She’d never heard of any Nick Geary, never seen this man before in her life. Or had she? Why didn’t she know? Shouldn’t she? What could they possibly need to talk about? A new kind of panic engulfed her. She pounced on the button, closed the window, and laid on her horn.
Scowling, he mouthed some kind of oath.
The driver door swung open on the truck in front of her. A portly man with a bush of a gray beard got out, lumbered over. Squinted at her. “You okay?” he bellowed as he tugged a T-shirt sporting a Confederate flag over his girth. “This guy messin’ with you?”
Yeah, he was messing with her all right. Air. She needed air. She locked eyes with Nick. His were blue and crystalline, as placid as they’d been stormy. He reached around his neck to finger a shiny stone the green of spring grass, nestled under his collar on what appeared to be a thin leather strap.
It glowed with ember-like intensity. She watched, fascinated.
I-279 South, idling engines, the car radio somewhere behind her booming its bass—all of it receded like floodwater after a storm.
Libby stood on the porch of the cabin she and her father rented for a week every summer. He came around the corner, fairly glowing. Pink with health. Dad. He slung a fishing rod over his shoulder and winked. “Let’s go catch us a mess of crappies.” The creek, ten feet away, rushed over rocks and fallen trees, its path clear, sure. The sun warmed her face and the air soothed her. She breathed in the scent of earth, burgeoning with spring.
She blinked. Snippets of music and phone conversations littered the highway around her. Libby gaped, unable to speak, like she’d shot down a hill on a roller coaster and banked the curve of the next.
Nick said nothing, his eyes still locked on hers.
Ford Truck shot him a dirty look, then clambered over to her side of the car. “Lady, I said, you okay?” he yelled.
Shaking, she lowered her window, not sparing him a glance. “Yeah, yeah, I’m okay.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah.”
Muttering something about the country going to hell in a handbasket, Ford Truck stomped back to his pickup and climbed inside.
Still staring at Nick, she clung fast to her resolve before it escaped her. Reaching across the seat, she yanked on the handle, and pushed open the passenger door.
“Get in.”

My review
I think this is such a cool book. Keepers of the humans, who watch over, protect and aid them. Nick being the leader of the Keepers, he responds when a watcher- exactly what they sound like- give him the heads up from another realm. And all of this is secret, especially from humans. And nick and his crew are pretty normal when not doing Keeper business. So when Nick is told to find Libby and take her back to the keepers and she's of utmost importance, things get chaotic from here. Here we learn about the Betrayers, who are like and emotional vampire- kinda- who use negative energy to feed. CREEPTASTIC right :)! They also want the Keepers gone because they stand in the way of extra negativity. Libby has no idea about keepers and Nick being around for a long time, but her memory won't always be correct and somethings happen for a reason. :)!

I loved the world building, with great world and lore to follow with a paranornal twist. It's got a little bit of everything but a good portion is the relationship between Libby and Nick. And good vs evil and bad guys vs good, I loved how unique and creative this story was. The writing is well done and kept my interest through the whole story. I liked the characters and I enjoyed seeing the twists everything fall where they may. I can't give spoilers lol. I am definitely looking forward to book two!! 4.5 PAWS!!

About the Coon Hollow Coven Tales Series

The series is about a coven of witches in a fictitious southern Indiana community, south of Bloomington, the neck of the woods where I spent my favorite childhood years surrounded by the love of a big family. The books are rich with a warm Hoosier down-home feel. There are interesting interactions between coven members and locals from the nearby small town of Bentbone. If magic wasn’t enough of a difference between the two groups, the coven folk adhere to the 1930s lifestyle that existed when the coven formed.

Book One

Excerpt from Chapter One: The Homestead

A shove of my shoulder pried the rusty hinges on the heavy log cabin door loose. I flung my blond braid to my back and peered inside. Beings and critters, alive and furry as well as undead and translucent, flew, crawled, or slithered across dark recesses of the hallway, sitting room, and stairwell.

“You weren’t kidding. This place is haunted.” I shuddered and looked over my shoulder at Cerise. She looked perky as always with her dark bobbed hair and lively brown eyes beneath horn-rimmed eyeglasses. “Were those things relations or varmints?” I took a cautious step over the threshold to escape the blustery weather and unbuttoned my corduroy jacket.

“Oh, both, Aggie. Ghosts of witch kin and their talking animal familiars,” she said and moved past me to lift sheets off the sitting room furniture.

I raised a brow, curious about what talking familiars were but was too afraid to ask. She didn’t seem to think they were bad, and I needed a place to stay.

Cerise dropped the sheets in a pile and wiped her dusty hands on her skirt. “Those sorts of ghosts are in all the homes here in Coon Hollow Coven. Maybe some animal spirits, too, from the surrounding woods. This property has at least fifty acres of forest. The ghosts are harmless, part of the family. At least no neighbors have complained, that I’ve heard.”

Eyeing corners of the parlor and the length of the hall, I wondered if I could ever get used to living with ghosts of people who’d lived here before. In New Wish, Indiana, where I’d spent my entire twenty years, we only had an occasional ghost. Usually lost souls who, for some reason, hadn’t found their peace before death took them. Most times, those folks had been tormented by darkness and experimented with black magic while they’d lived. Or so Mom told me, but I always thought that was just her way of keeping me in line.

I pushed those thoughts out of my head. I wanted a place of my own more than anything else, and not in the tiny town of New Wish where everyone knew me…or thought they did. They all said I was the spitting image of my Aunt Faye, with the same light blond straight hair, deep blue eyes, dark brows, and quiet personality. Everyone thought I’d grow up to be like her with a houseful of kids, seven or more. Fact was, they didn’t know me. I wasn’t sure I even knew myself. There was so much I wanted to learn and do that wouldn’t happen if I stayed at my parents’ home.

Cerise struggled to open the stuck window. “Aggie, can you help me here? Some fresh air might tempt a few spirits outside. This place has been vacant since my mother passed in 2009. We might find just about anything in here after five years.”

My review

Man oh man, if I thought I was obsessed with Ms Davis's writing with Cage of Deceit, this one has me completely shaking in my flip flops! Wowzers this is a completely magnificent start to a new series that I'm dying to get my hands on book two! I completely fell in love with Kaia and I have serious hopes for things. You see, in this wonderfully build magical world, there are a few who have powers. The king wants to kill every last one with powers because they are a threat to his. And Kaia is the first female to wield the power and more than just a little one. So when she finds out she's a Kriger- the magical people- on the run from the king with an assassin named Anders leading the way, she's mind blown. Hell I was mind blown. And I must say, do not go in thinking this is light hearted or sweet and clean. I balled my eyes out, I cussed, I just about fell over myself thinking Anders has become my hottest new book boyfriend. Oh oh and the bad guy, well, there's something going on and it might not be so horrible.

So Kaia is on the run from Morlet and that's where we really get to see what she's all about. You learn in the beginning she's a hard worker, caring, loving, loyal to a fault. But you see her really flourish with Anders and Vidar when they take her under their care and begin her real training. She's my hero! I loved every second of being in her head. I also seriously want her and Anders to get that happy ending- not looking so good- but Ima say every prayer possible. I like Vidar a lot, but he just doesn't hold true candle flames to Anders's bonfire! Lol anyways, we learn about everything right along with Kaia and I loved that this kept the suspense up. Also, the intrigue with Morlet and the dreams and the kidnappings, well, there's plenty of action here too. And I love that Kaia stands up for herself and against the guys. She's got her own backbone and she knows how to keep it straight. She also knows when a girls loving touch is needed. And Morler, well that's a whole big mystery in itself and I know as the series continues, it will only get even better!

The story and the world building are phenomenal. I absolutely think the characters and their complexity and depth make this one wonderful, but seriously, I'm impressed and awed with how creative the story line is! I shouldn't be- I know this author is a genius when she writes! But I love that I'm still surprised! And I've become a drug addict and I will do whatever it takes to get my next fix of Anders, Kaia, Vidar, even Morlet! Wow! Just wow! That's all I can say!!! Oh oh and I freaking love the cool staff!! :) 5 SPECTACULAR PAWS!!

My review

This is an excellent continuation sequel from book one! We left off from book one on a crazy moment and we start off there. Athan wants Hope, but first he's got to find her. He's willing to sacrifice a lot for her. And I love that he truly loves her and puts her wants and needs first. Even if it costs him. And Hope, well she has grown so much and I love her character, even more in this book. She has a lot on her plate, and now that Xan is around competing  with Athan for her, it seems even more complicated. And I liked Xan too! He's kinda the opposite of Athan but I can't figure out which way we're going just yet! Lol and she's finally figured out what she wants and needs and she's gunna get it.  And I loved that she's loyal! And we have some other important powerful gods, demigods, people who pop in! I won't spoil things though :)

The writing is great! I loved having the continuation from the first book because I liked it so much! And I look forward to seeing even more in the future! I love that the author has kept my attention and twisted the myths and lore just enough for it to be her own without throwing the whole concept out the window :) and I definitely love the story!! 5 PAWS!!
