Happy Book Birthday~ Into the Fire by Kelly Hashway!!

Into the Fire

In one month’s time, seventeen-year-old Cara Tillman will die and be reborn from her own ashes…

Her life of secrecy has never been easy. She’s watched her younger brother, Jeremy, burn and rise again in a coming-of-age process called rebirth. And just like her brother, when her time comes, she won’t remember anything from her first life other than she’s a Phoenix—a member of a small group of people descended from the mythical Phoenix bird.

The last thing she needs to worry about is falling for the new guy in town—Logan Schmidt.

Cara is drawn to Logan in a way she can’t explain, but she’s not exactly complaining. Everything is perfect…except it’s not. Once she’s reborn, she’ll forget Logan. And to make things worse, a Phoenix Hunter is on the loose, and Cara’s involvement with Logan is bringing out her Phoenix qualities—the very qualities that will draw the Hunter right to her.

Desperate times call for desperate measures…

Afraid of hurting Logan, Cara breaks it off for good. But her attraction to him runs deeper than a typical high school crush. She wants him—needs him. And if he proves willing to stay by her side, their love might destroy them both.

Can Cara hide from the Phoenix Hunters long enough to survive her rebirth? And if so, will it mean a new beginning with Logan—or the beginning of the end?

My Review

So, let me tell you how cool it is that I got to read this as an ARC. Kelly Hashway- being so cool- offered a contest for a few bloggers to help read ARCs and share the goodies. I happened to win, and I am seriously STOKED that I got to read this one. I must say, if you haven't read anything by her yet, you should! She is a great writer, but THIS ONE, yeah this one has sealed the deal for me. It's a wonderful new series starter and it's a fantastic plot line with some seriously cool twisting on the paranormal takes of the lore. I loved loved LOVED the phoenix lore that the author has created. And I never thought the bad guy was the bad guy until the almost end of the book. I loved that.

We start with Cara, who is a phoenix, and so is her family. And several town members. But we begin with her watching her brother die and then be reborn. There's a kick, when you are reborn, you forget everything. And in her little freak out about her brother, she accidentally meets Logan.... who she imprints on. Well imprinting is kind of like a mating, but not and but so. LOL It's complicated, because you don't have to finish the imprint, you can chose to forget them. But dude, I would NEVER want to forget Logan either. :) It was fantastic because you get to see both Cara and Logan's POV. Cara is a wonderful girl. She seems like she was always the good girl, made the right choices, followed the rules, took care of everyone. And Logan, he's a sweet boy, but he's going through a heart time with the tragedy in his life. I don't understand his dad's issue- where the hell is he all the damn time. Seriously. And Cara's- her mother may be looking out for her best interests, but I hated her. She went about it all the wrong way. And she never helped herself. It was madness.

And I loved the friends that surrounded Cara, and her brother Blake, and Logan's hilarious friend from NY. And the reason I mention these people is because they don't know about phoenixes, other than her brother. Yet, they still play a pretty big role in their lives. Cara spends a serious amount of this book freaking out. She is trying to deal with the fact that her brother doesn't remember her, her mother hates Logan, she's going to be reborn and forget Logan, oh oh and someone is killing off phoenixes around them. I was seriously sad with the first murder because I really liked that character. I also really liked Monique, and her very fun cafe. :) And the hawt kisses. But I am looking forward to seeing more lore and back story about the phoenix lore and their ancestors.

I am fascinated with the writing. The author definitely made me stick to every page. I was dying to know what was going to happen. And I am heartbroken at the ending. Things are really serious. And there is a cliff hanger so prepare yourself. But dammit it's so awesome. There's so much twisting and mystery and suspense so you won't be able to put this one down. I am salivating to get my hands on book two and I am scorched by this one! Gimme gimme!! I gotta know! :) 5 FIERY PAWS!!!
