My Review

I am completely hooked!! I loved this one and I adored Aspen with her crazy antics and Sid with his seriousness and even Pearl the sister. This was a fun adventure with twists in dragon lore and some seriously strict politics and a murderous dragon on the loose. I know I'm getting ahead of myself but I'm dying for book two!!

Aspen is the danger child. Her parents are park rangers so she's constantly out in the wild doing crazy things, like chasing dragons. I love that dragons are part of the real world but no one knows they are shifters, that's a highly guarded secret. Until Aspen meets Obsidian. Obsidian is a black dragon, who will become king. He doesn't really want to be king but it's his duty. And also his duty is to spend years as a human to better relate. He hates humans, and yet he totally falls for Aspen and it's against all the rules. He could be dethroned for it and she could be killed. Oh and there's a dragon going around eating people. It's bad press and both Sid and Aspen are trying to prove dragons are good and don't want to harm people. I have my suspects in who the bad dragon is but I'm not 100% positive and there's a little left open at the end of the book for book two. Aspen loves dragons and everything about them. She is constantly putting herself in danger to get closer to them so when she meets the black dragon and he marks her, things get crazy. Aspen fights her attraction to Sid for very painful reasons and I totally cried for her when she finally admitted it all to Sid. I wanted to cry.  And I also loved the side characters, her cafe boss, her slightly weird bff who isn't such a nice friend, bad Mark, Sid's mentor and his sister. The characters are all well written.

The writing is fantastic and the plot kept me glued to the pages. The world building is also wonderful and I loved how the author created the back story with a secret dragon and saving Aspen. But beware, there's a little cliff hanger, hence my needing book two immediately!! I am a total fan and I can't wait to see how this one will play out. 5 DRAGON PAWS!!!!

Author Playlist

My playlist for Obsidian is centered around one artist. I’m not quite sure how it happened, but even six years later, when I dusted off the manuscript and rewrote it, I still listened to the same artist. New songs though.

My main character would be mortified. Aspen is a hard rock kind of gal and somehow I think Taylor Swift would make her ears bleed.

But I’m such a huge fan of Taylor’s. She has a song for every occasion.

Here’s my top five favorite Taylor Swift songs (Narrowing the list down was soooooo hard!):

1. Love Story

2. Fearless

3. Enchanted

4. Long Live

5. I Know Places
