Synopsis:
All that’s required to ignite a revolution is a single spark rising.
Two hundred years after the cataclysm that annihilated fossil fuels, Sparks keep electricity flowing through their control of energy-giving Dust. The Council of Nine rebuilt civilization on the backs of Sparks, offering citizens a comfortable life in a relo-city in exchange for power, particularly over the children able to fuel the future. The strongest of the boys are taken as Wards and raised to become elite agents, the Council’s enforcers and spies. Strong girls—those who could advance the rapidly-evolving matrilineal power—don’t exist. Not according to the Council.
Lena Gracey died as a child, mourned publicly by parents desperate to keep her from the Council. She was raised in hiding until she fled the relo-city for solitary freedom in the desert. Lena lives off the grid, selling her power on the black market.
Agent Alex Reyes was honed into a calculating weapon at the Ward School to do the Council’s dirty work. But Alex lives a double life. He’s leading the next generation of agents in a secret revolution to destroy those in power from within.
The life Lena built to escape her past ends the day Alex arrives looking for a renegade Spark.

My Review
This is a great start to a new dystopian type series!! I must say, I haven't read anything like it before, and not just the story was great, but the writing was fabulous as well. You see, when terrorists build some little robots that destroyed all of the fossil fuels across the globe, things went really dark. Literally. Think about what no electricity would do. But scientists were taking soldiers and genetically improving them, and they could manipulate things, hence the Spark. So, this new world is build on these people, being treated as almost slaves without realizing it, that run the world with their manipulation of power. And one girl won't be a part of it. Until she is caught, and terrible things happen, and she joins up with others to fight back! Oh and maybe we need a little romance thrown in there :)
Lena is that girl. You see, she's been in hiding, because her family knew she was powerful and didn't want the government to get their hands on her. Or have her be a slave to them like they were. So they faked her death and hid her. Then she ran and hid out on her own in the middle of nothing. Lena is definitely a strong heroine, and she's just bad ass. Can I say that she's awesome. I loved her character. I also felt sorry for her at times. She was sheltered from a lot, so she doesn't understand a lot of things. And people, even if they want to help her, are still using her as pawns, including Alex who is heading this resistance. And though anyone would fall for Alex, he is going to have a lot to answer to when all his secrets come out :)
I loved the secondary characters in here as well. Thomas, the other head of the resistance. Jackson, who may have stolen my heart a little bit. Rose, who I won't say who she is just yet. Alex may be our leading man, but he hasn't completely won my heart yet. I think he should have to work harder for Lena, and I think some of her trust is misled my Alex's secrets, though I completely understand why he keeps them. Doesn't mean I like them. And the plot, of what they are trying to accomplish to free the Sparks. WOW!
I know that there is more to come. No there's isn't a cliff hanger, but there's some things left open, so I can't wait to see where this is going to go. I want to see where Lena is going to lead her and the girls to. I want to see if Alex will ever come completely clean with Lena. I hope they really do stay a happy couple. And I hope Lena finds a way to destroy those bad people! I am ready for more!! 5 MAGNIFICENT PAWS!

Kate Corcino is a reformed shy girl who found her voice (and uses it…a lot). She believes in magic, coffee, Starburst candies, genre fiction, descriptive profanity, and cackling over wine with good friends. A recovering Dr. Pepper addict, she knows the only addiction worth feeding is the one that follows the “click-whooooosh” of a new story settling into her brain.
She also believes in the transformative power of screwing up and second chances. Cheers to works-in-progress of the literary and lifelong variety!
She is currently gearing up for publication of Ignition Point and Spark Rising , the first books in the Progenitor Saga, a near future dystopian adventure series with romantic elements, science, magic, and plenty of action.
