Cursed by Fire by Danielle Annett Review!

Cursed by Fire (Blood & Magic, #1)

Cursed by Fire (Blood & Magic #1)

It has been six years since the Awakening and peace in Spokane, Washington is still tenuous at best. The vampires and shifters are all vying for control of the city and the humans seem to be the ones suffering the consequences, or so it seems.

Aria Naveed has spent the last two years of her life fighting to make the many wrongs of the world right, but soon finds out that the humans aren’t as weak as they appear and may be a more terrifying foe than any of the other races combined.

When a stranger rolls into town with trouble on his heels, Aria finds herself trapped in the middle of a battle that could cost her more than she has bargained for as a fight for justice turns into an unexpected fight for her life.

My Review

What a great way to start a new series! It's kind of dystopian, and urban fantasy, and cool all rolled into one :) You see, a few years back, the Awakening happened, where supes came out to the world, and humans are at the bottom. The supernatural are fighting against each other to rule and some want humans to stay and some want them slaves. Except humans are fighting back. Aria is a human, except she has a few abilities, and she uses them to help fight back against the supes. She has a murder of a child that is weighing heavily on her and she wants to find the murderer and bring him to justice. She works with the government to keep the supes and humans from killing each other off.

Aria and James, a wolf shifter, become partners to find the killer. But when they start looking into things, Aria finds out that there's a whole lot more going on. I liked her. She's pretty bad ass, and I enjoyed her. AND she has the troubled past but it doesn't keep her down, it keeps her fighting. And she has this cool little power, but I won't go there. Some things you just have to read.

I liked the characters that came into things, the shifters, the vampers, a few others. I look forward to seeing how this world with them evolves and how they play a bigger roll in the stories to come. I also liked the mystery part that the investigation works around.

I liked the world building and the writing style. I also look forward to seeing where this will go and how it will grow. It's a shorter novel. It's not a short story, but I want more. LOL and I can't wait to see where Aria is gunna have her next adventure! 5 PAWS!
PS I have seen all the comments about how this book is so much like another popular author's books, BUT I can say I haven't read that author so it had no affect on me. However, rude reviewers are never good. You can say a lot in a nice way. And really, even if it is a lot like that other author, how many authors base their stories off of something they loved and read. :)
