Souls by Ednah Walters
My ReviewWARNING: This is CORA’S story: This book may be considered NA (new adult) because it contains some swearing, violence and sex scenes: Suitable for ages 17 and up. A Clean Version will also be available on Amazon.Eighteen-year-old Cora Jemison knows what it’s like to date a soul reaper. There are no Friday night movies, no school dances, and no stolen kisses between classes. It totally sucks! What makes it even worse, souls pop up when she least expects it. The last one is not her fault, but it all adds up to zero quality time with her super hot, scythe-carrying boyfriend, Echo.Since Cora was etched with special runes by an evil Immortal, she understands why souls are drawn to her. She makes the best of it by helping souls find closure while Echo escorts them to the realm of the dead. Perfect partners, until a dark soul visits Cora in the dead of the night and Echo decides her soul-helping days are over.Cora can either listen to Echo or follow her instincts. To make matters worse, other reapers start stalking her, demanding she hand over the soul. Even her Valkyrie friends think she’s gone too far. But something sinister is coming their way, and the soul is the key to saving her town, her friends, and her relationship with Echo. Can she convince Echo to see things her way before it’s too late?
This is such a fantastic series. They always leave you turning the pages and wanting more when you're done. I think pretty much everyone will fall for Echo in Grimnirs, but now we get to see the whole thing between Echo and Cora. You see, Cora we met in Runes, and this is part of that series but a little bit of a spin off, and we still get to see Torin, Raine, and a few others. Things are getting more complicated, and some dangers are lurking. And you know it doesn't help that Cora is immortal, and Echo is a Grimnir- no I won't tell you too much about what that is. But them being different puts a little strain on things.
Cora is sassy, and a little full of attitude, and I love that. And yes, she's Raine's best friend, but she gets her own story. Cora has the souls to deal with, and that's her job, but something is a miss. Cora is getting sick, and then Echo has to leave to deal with someone close to Raine's family, and then it gets even harder for Cora. And then we meet Dev. And he's protecting Cora, but he is also telling secrets. He tells her why him and Echo are at odds, and why he is what he is, and what happened. And Echo is a wonderful bad boy! He can be a good boy sometimes too :) LOL
I love the writing and I love where this series is going. And the characters make you fall in love with them, and want so much more. I look forward to the next book and I can't wait to see where this series is going to go!! 5 PAWS!
