The Wicked City by Megan Morgan,
Thane’s Redemption by Nina Crespo and Being Emerald by Sylvia Ryan
The Wicked City:
Whatever June Coffin
says, goes—literally. And it’s not just because she’s a chain smoking rebel. As
a Siren, June has the ability to force people to obey any command she voices.
But in a world where those with supernatural powers quickly become lab rats for
science, she’d rather look out for herself than fight on the front lines…until
her similarly gifted twin brother, Jason, is captured by Chicago’s Institute of
Supernatural Research.
To save Jason, June has
no choice but to enter a hidden world of conspiracy, murder—and strange
bedfellows—including a widowed paranormal advocate whose memory June
accidentally erased, and a fiery paranormal separatist leader. Soon the lines
between attraction and strategic alliance become blurred. But in a city
exploding with paranormal crossfire, and her brother’s life at stake, June will
have to face her inner demons and finally take a stand,

My Review
I thought this book was way cool. The main character has an amazing way of telling the story- of course that credit really goes to the author. There's an institute for paranormals. You see, people have categories now. And those with something special about them really don't want anyone else to know.
June needs to get her brother out of the institute she escaped from. June's a rough take charge kinda girl. I loved that about her. She's not the soft or vulnerable type. She also sometimes needs to maybe grow up just a little. She's a Siren, and she wants to live a normal life. She doesn't want her paranormal side to rule her life. But then her twin Jason and her somehow get talked into this institute. Yeah lots of chaos ensues and she is stuck right where she spent her whole time trying to avoid.
There are some great side characters, her brother, her kinda boyfriend Micha, Sam, Cindy is hilarious. I always have a tendency to love the side characters because they bring such depth and complexity to the stories. June's wanting to hide has also kept her out of the knowledgeable loop with the human/paranormal things. Her escape brings about her need to find her brother and learn a whole lot more than she thought she understood.
The writing is well done and I liked the story line. I'm not real sure how I feel about Micha and June with a relationship, but I look forward to seeing how it will progress. Overall I liked this story and I want to read more!! :) 4 PAWS!!
Thane’s Redemption:
The one night she’ll
want to remember, she’ll be forced to forget.
It’s been almost a year since Celine’s fiancé’s death and she’s still struggling to move on. But when she meets Thane, the super hot lead singer of Thane’s Redemption, she finds her desire reawakening, and her heart opening. Soon one kiss leads them straight into a night of heated passion…

Thane’s unexpected
connection with Celine only leaves him wanting more of her—but his life makes
it impossible. For Thane’s Redemption is just a cover for a deeper secret: A
former Army Ranger presumed dead, Thane is really a time-traveling, covert
operative charged with saving the world from disaster. Each jump through time
forces those around him to forget he ever existed—and Celine would be no
exception. But can time work in their favor to give them a second chance at
love? Or will a choice Thane makes in the future put Celine in mortal danger?…

My Review
Ok, so I haven't read any of the previous in the series, nor have I read this author, BUT I liked this book! And I've read some things and everyone loves Rock, and now I do too! This is such an interesting concept and the world building that I see is amazing. I bet it's even better if I would have read the other books before it. This one could be read as a stand a lone thought because I didn't have any trouble. And I also maybe should have payed a little more attention as I would almost put this book in the erotica side, but it's dystopian as well.
Rock is complicated LOL I understand he likes things a little different in bed as well :) He's not just a crazy kinky dude. He is a product of his surroundings. And with him and Laila, they need love not just lust. It took the two of them together to finally understand things. And Rock trains Laila in self defense, they begin a real relationship. Something to grow on. And Laila doesn't have it easy. Rock is hard core and really tough on her.
The world that is build in a dystopian world is fantastic. Well, it's not happy, it's just done so well!! Each person is put into a class, and each class is very separate. It's not just say skin color, but also personality if I can explain it like that. The Amber zone has a more "normal" outlook on sex and how people comfort each other. The rebellious others have their hands full as well and creates a lot of suspense for the reader. The government will make you cringe. Their rules and how things go. Let's just say that this one was nothing of what I expected but I will be looking to read more :) 4.5 PAWS!
