Synopsis:
Everyone thinks Harper Young killed her boyfriend. No one will say it to her face, but the signs are everywhere.
It’s almost been a year since Gavin was torn from Harper’s arms and brutally murdered. The police wrote it off as a freak accident, deciding Harper’s strange testimony was given under duress. But she knows something unnatural was involved and refuses to stop looking until she finds his killer, even if it means her reputation as a senior is ruined. Even if it means there really are monsters living among us.
With the discovery of the mothmen, witches, vampires and all the creatures she always suspected were out there, Harper finds herself amidst a complex bundle of unseen heroes who call themselves “Keepers”, sworn to keep the secret of the paranormal creatures that walk this earth. As she tries to understand what’s so special about her that she’s able to break an old Keeper law, Harper has a baffling vision of kissing a mysterious guy before a blade is brought down on him. Before she can get a handle on her future, she becomes central to a battle between the questionable “heroes” and the evil she’s been training to fight, leaving her to wonder if there’s any way to change the fate that has been foretold before it’s too late.

My Review
What a great new series! There's a policing agency of people who keep track of the creatures. You can't be human to be a keeper, except for Harper. You see, she starts seeing things, and then watches her boyfriend be murdered by something not human, and then all of a sudden, one of those keepers finds Harper and brings her into their world. So all of a sudden, she's hated, knows nothing of their rules, falls in love, has a prophecy that she's going to end the world, and has her heart broken. Wow right :) Plus, the world the author created for this one is so fun :)
Harper was the it girl. Part of the popular crowd, until her boyfriend died. They they treated her like she was the murderer. And she became the girl who fell and broke. She wraps herself in researching every single thing she can find about supernatural things. Well, not all of it is right but it helps. Because when something else happens, and Harper can't help but go look, a keeper finds out she's something special and literally takes her from the spot to her new world. She doesn't get to talk to her family, she has to deal with hatred from people who don't know her, horrible mean girls, and try to over come her grief with the fact that there's another guy who's captured her heart. She's strong, brave, sometimes quite hilarious with her inner monologue and funny retorts.
The plot also has some excellent twists in the mystery as it unravels. Like that one person who was a bad guy, and that other people who seemed bad but was good, and the scary guy who was just intimidating, and the relationship between Dex and Harper is great, because it grew. No one was falling over themselves at first sight. And Leo, ok, I wanted to hate him, but now, I almost feel sorry for him and I want to see what will happen. The professors are interesting, and I can't believe who picked which sides. I want more and like as fast as possible!!! Gimme Gimme! 5 Magical Paws!! :)
