About Jasmine Walt Jasmine WaltI'm obsessed with books, chocolate, and sharp, pointy objects. Somehow, those three things melded together in my head and transformed into a desire to write. Usually fantastical stuff, with a healthy dose of action and romance. My characters are a little (okay, a lot) on the snarky side, and they swear, but they mean well. Even the villains sometimes.

When I'm not working on my next book, you can find me working on my dao sword form, spending time with my family, or binge-watching superhero shows on Netflix. My Review

Well, I'm kinda shocked. I was not expecting any of this, ever. So, the blurb describes the book well.... For the first third of the book lol. It however doesn't describe the amount of shock and heart break and twists and down right mind boggling moments for the next 2/3 of the book. I loved this book but in still struggling to put it into words as why. I was thinking we were gunna drop a human girl turned wolf into a pack, she would find a mate, and make it all great. Ummmm. Ahhh. Yeah I can't! Just no. ;)

Ok so Kalysia is born with the curse to turn into a werewolf. But she lives in the human world. Her mom raised her this way to make her grow up with her own mind and opinions and dreams. Pack mentality is not always a good thing. So on the Lunam ceremony night when she will shift for the first time and find her mate, her world changes. Some for the better. She learns what family can be like and real friends. She also learns about enemies and greed and sometimes the humans have it better. She also meets her mate- or so she thinks. This is where it gets complicated. There's this one choice Kalysia made and I don't think it's the right one. She gave up something she can never take back, and I don't think if Dillon or her friend were really what they say they are, would have ever agreed. I'm pissed. But then Dillon really is the sweet caring guy he comes off as. And though they are both young, he's trying to make the right decisions for everyone. But... I also think he made the wrong choice. When he used the "L" word, I know he meant it, but that would have stopped that bad choice, stopped that big giant mistake. And it will be a mistake- I know it will bite them both in the ass!! And then there's Jace... Oh God, my stomach hurts to think about the situation because I want so much for it to be a nice happy situation but it won't be. And Leah, for all intents and purposes, I love her and she and Kalysia I think will need each other a lot in the future. And then there's that other little mistake. That one night which I can't help but be secretly happy about. Because when all is said and done, Dillon will have his, but without that part, Kalysia would have missed out something huge. Dammit two wrongs never make a right but a little bit of fair is fair. I fault Kalysia because she agreed and said yes, but if it's good for the goose then it's good for the gander and yes I'm so torn. I will not tell you anything but jeez Louise be prepared for a complete melt down because I am. I still am. It's been over a week and I'm still slack jawed with my tongue on the floor. And boy oh boy, that last chapter, well I think this might be another mistake. You cannot "make" something from nothing. It's going to be an epic proportioned knock down drag out no holds barred straight up brawl when the truth comes out. And it will. Someone is gunna say something or figure something out. Someone is not gunna make it through this. I just don't know who yet.

Ok enough about my emotional loss of words, and more about the writing. It's spectacular! And not because it's over the top or anything but it's simple and realistic and if you can make me "feel" like I do, weeks after I finished, you've accomplished a major feat here. I couldn't write my review right away- not without spilling my guts and yelling to the world how complicated this poor girl's life has become. She was supposed to be the simple one. She was supposed to make changes. Oh she did alright but it's gunna be a nuclear disaster soon!  hahahaha seriously... The characters are all well written. From Kalysia to Dillon to Leah to the leading alphas and the parents and the whole outlook of their lives. And to that parent that put them all in this predicament of that bad choice- I have many very bad thoughts about him. Please please tell me he will die horribly in a torturous way that will sate my need for pain- because he sure has caused a whole lot of pain and it's not even the real start of it. And on top of it, the twists on "non pure" shifters, oh it's going to be a beautiful disaster when everyone figures out that part. You know it's like you know it's wrong, but you can't help but stare when something crazy happens. Yeah, think that times 10! You feel bad for those hurt but you know it's not over! If anyone reads this book- comment me, email me, find some way to tell me you read it and then let's hash out things. I need a sounding board for this book so I can try to figure out who's actually gunna make it through this intact and alive. I've NEVER read a werewolf book like this and it's a wammy!! And dammit if I won't pay to get my hands on book two! Lol!!! I'm all screwed up in my morals and feelings and for once, I'm glad I'm a human who lives on a farm in simple life styles because I could not handle "that"!!!! Well done! I don't know how else to say it but well done!!! I recommend this book but maybe not for the faint of heart, and I don't mean gory, I mean emotionally. 5 PHENOMENONAL WOLFY PAWS!!

Withering Rose (Once Upon a Curse #2)
by Kaitlyn Davis
Genre: YA Fantasy/Fairy Tale Retelling
Release Date: May 17th 2016

Summary:

 **A USA Today Recommended Series!**

What if Beauty was cursed, and the Beast was the only one who could save her? Don't miss WITHERING ROSE, a dystopian romance from bestselling author Kaitlyn Davis that reimagines the classic fairy tale of Beauty & The Beast. This is the second book in Once Upon A Curse, a series of interconnected stand-alone novels all set in the same fantasy universe.

"As the heat finally disappeared, I felt the bloom blossom in the very core of my soul, a rose just like my name—a ticking clock hidden behind a façade of beauty. From that moment on, my life would become a countdown, and all I could do was wait and watch as the petals of time slowly started to fall."

Omorose Bouchene has a secret—magic. There's only one problem. At the age of seven, an earthquake struck, catapulting her into a new world. A land made of skyscrapers and cell phones. Fast cars and fluorescent lights. A land where magic isn't supposed to exist and anyone who wields it is the enemy.

But after ten years of hiding, she's desperate to find a place where she can be free. Because all magic comes with a curse, and her curse is time—every ounce of power she uses strips days off of her life. The clock is winding down, and the only option left is to escape to the realm ruled by a man known only as the Beast. But the king of monsters isn’t what he seems. And the more Omorose opens her heart, the more she comes to realize that the only person she may need to fear is herself.

Gathering Frost (Once Upon a Curse #1)

RAVE REVIEWS for Gathering Frost!

"My favorite thing about this book is the action. Jade isn't a sleeping princess. She's the best fighter and so fierce in her "empty" state. I felt like this was an urban fantasy with all the steam of a romance, and it was almost perfect for me." - Jessie Potts, USA TODAY Happy Ever After Blog

"Davis writes with confidence and poise, and the story's many twists and turns stave off predictability and allow readers to become immersed in a starkly magical world filled with last hopes." - Publisher's Weekly

"Gathering Frost is just awesome in every way. Beautiful prose, lots of heart-wrenching emotion, action and romance, a great, unstoppable villain, and a smart, tough heroine who will fight for what she wants." - Geeks in High School

"The writing is flawless as always and I must say, way to take a classic and make such a creative and wonderful twist to it...It's well thought out and it unbelievably magnificent. I seriously couldn't put it down. Wait I never actually put it down. I started and finished in one sitting because it's just that good. This one is a MUST READ." - Happy Tails and Tales Blog

Book Description:

Can you still love with a heart of stone?

Sebastian Grey always thought he was a fairly normal teenager – good friends, decent grades and a pretty sweet job in his foster brother’s tattoo shop.

But when Romany gypsies arrive in town, Sebastian discovers that his world is not what it seems. There is an age-old feud between his family and the gypsies – and this isn’t the only secret his brother has been keeping from him. His life is not his own. The girl he’s been dreaming about has just turned up at school, and he feels compelled to protect her at all costs.

Even if that means life might never be normal again.

Excerpt:

Sebastian, are you still there?’
I transferred my phone to my other hand as I buckled the seatbelt. ‘Yeah, I’m here.’
‘Weren’t you listening to me?’ Katie asked.
I paused, trying to remember what we’d been talking about. The two hours since lunch had been a blur, and my brain was mush. ‘Um . . . ’
Katie sighed on the other end. ‘The project Ms Lucian talked about in class today,’ she continued impatiently. ‘When are we going to work on it?’
‘I’m sorry,’ I replied, starting the engine. ‘The pounding in my head’s making it difficult to think.’
‘Another headache?’
‘You know me and sunny days,’ I said dismissively. I stepped on the gas and coaxed my old van onto the road. ‘But about the project. I don’t know if I can do it this week. Can I get back to you?’
‘Yeah, just don’t wait too long. I know we’ve got almost a month to work on it, so Ms Lucian’s not going to cut us any slack, and the rest of our group is totally avoiding me about the whole thing.’
Katie hated procrastinating on anything related to schoolwork. This was probably killing her. ‘Look, don’t worry about it. I’ll talk to the guys, and we’ll come up with a day to work on it. I promise, we won’t let you down.’
‘Thanks, Sebastian,’ she replied, sounding relieved. ‘You’re not nearly as much of an idiot as the rest of your species.’
I chuckled. ‘I think you mean gender.’
She giggled. ‘No, I don’t.’
‘Talk to you later, Katie.’
‘Bye.’
I tossed the phone on the passenger seat and rubbed my temples. By the time I made it through town and steered my van into the parking lot of the Gypsy Ink, my headache had traveled, setting up residence between my shoulder blades. The last thing I felt like doing was homework.
I shuffled through the waiting room, giving a brief wave to Kris, who was busy behind the counter. I’d grab a quick snack and then lay out flat on the floor of the apartment for a while. Just until the aching eased. I paused in the hallway just outside the door of Hugo’s workspace. I didn’t have to say anything. My brother knew I was there.
‘Hey, Sebastian.’ He glanced up from his sketchbook. ‘What’s up?’
‘Do you have any sports cream?’ I leaned against the wall and squinted as a sharp pain lanced through my shoulders. ‘My back’s killing me.’
Hugo’s brows settled low over his dark eyes. ‘In the drawer beside my bed.’
‘Okay, thanks.’
I continued down the hallway, followed by the weight of my brother’s stare. He probably thought I was trying to get out of work, which wasn’t a bad idea. I chucked my bag on the bed and rummaged through Hugo’s nightstand until I located the tube of medicine. I worked the cream into my back, but it felt as if someone was digging long fingers between my shoulder blades, attempting to separate muscle from bone.
I gave up with the cream and stumbled to the bathroom on a quest for aspirin. Just as I reached for the medicine cabinet, another shock of pain doubled me over. I gripped the edge of the counter and straightened. My gaze flicked to the mirror. For a moment, I almost didn’t recognize the face staring back. I was crazy pale, even for me, and my skin made the hazel color of my eyes look dull. But then I noticed something else. Another chunk of gray was poking through my disheveled hair.

My Review
Such an interesting twist here!!! I'm not really familiar with gypsies but I am familiar with the other- hearts of stone we shall say :)! And I'm super pumped to say I loved the characters- a lot! Especially Sebastian and Hugo. That's just brotherly love and I think it's super cool how the author played them together. And I also really like seeing a ya in a male POV. We get lots of females, and we get males in the adult books, but rarely do we see them in YA and it's very well done! So let's start with Sebastian. He wakes up one day with something wrong. He has no idea what's happened and no one can tell him. He's also been dreaming about this girl and all of a sudden she's real and in front of him. Josephine is not a dream girl but a real girl from his dreams.

I enjoyed this one. I happen to love those.... Yeah I can't tell you what Sebastian is, you got figure it out! But I love those, along with werewolves and dragons- if you've read other reviews you'll know :) and the author did a fantastic job weaving the web of suspense and intrigue while keeping it light and not too dark. It's well done and I'm definitely looking forward to book two!! This is just the start of the series and I'm definitely looking forward to getting some answers to questions I have! Well done!! 4.5 PAWS!!!

Author Interview

First, tell me a little about your book ….
I’d be happy to! Grey is the first book in The Romany Outcasts series. It’s a YA fantasy, set in the southern part of the U.S. Grey tells the story of eighteen-year-old Sebastian – a pretty average teen who lives with his foster brother Hugo who runs a tattoo shop. But one day, a clan of Outcast Gypsies arrives in town, and Sebastian finds himself pulled into a world of secrets, shadowy creatures, and a destiny he can’t escape.

What inspired you to write your first book and what was it?
Well, to be honest, I was inspired to write this book by my students. I was teaching high school drama at the time, and I got this idea for a YA story. I shared it with my class, and they immediately encouraged me to write the book. Some of them even helped me edit and revise it.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
There are several people, places, and incidents that happen in Grey that are directly influenced by real life. I even fashioned a few characters from students and people I know.

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I have a copy of An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir in my TBR pile. I’ve heard lots of good things about it, so I’m looking forward to delving in.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
I’m currently writing book three in the series, which is the last book in the trilogy. It’s definitely a challenge because all the final puzzle pieces have to fit together. I’ve done a lot more researching, mapping, and plot diagramming for this book than I did with the other two.

What book are you reading now? Or what genre?
I tend to read a lot of fantasy and YA. I’ve just started Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, which was recommended to me by a friend.

Who designed the cover? And do you help with them?
The fabulous Cherie Chapman designed my cover. She’s one of the art designers for HarperCollinsUK. I was fortunate to be able to include a good bit of input on the cover, and I am really pleased with how it turned out.

If you could be one of your characters, who would you chose?
Gosh, that’s a tough question! Though I love the characters of Sebastian and Ms. Lucian – for reasons I can’t really say here (spoilers!) – I’m not totally sure I’d like to be them. But I would love to be a part of their world in some way.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I would like to say thank you so very much for opening yourself up to a new book and a new series. Being a debut author is extremely difficult! I feel like a fish swimming upstream most of the time, but it encourages me so much when I get positive feedback from readers about my book. So thank you!

Sea Dragon By Bianca D'Arc!

Today we have Bianca D’Arc’s Sea Dragon blog tour. This is a sexy new romantic fantasy and the latest in her standalone series, The Dragon Knights. Check out the excerpt she’s sharing and be sure to enter the giveaway!

About Sea Dragon:

1-SeaDrgn-400x600

A blind dragon who just wants to be left alone…

Sir Hrardorr was once the mightiest of fighters. Now he’s blind and useless. His knight is dead and he can’t even go into proper mourning because he needs help just to get around. Part sea dragon, he decides to go to the Southern Lair to rusticate by the coast. He can fly out over the open water and dive into the sea, where he still has at least some ability to hunt on his own. He doesn’t expect to meet a human woman out on the water, fishing in her small sailboat, but he does, and unexpectedly, they become friends.

A young man who gave up the sword to help the Lair’s healer…

Seth grew up in the Lair and has long had a crush on the most beautiful girl in the town, Livia. But she is the famous sea captain’s daughter, and far, far above him. It’d be one thing if he was a knight or at least a candidate to be one, but Seth gave up all dreams of knighthood when he chose to apprentice himself to the Lair’s elderly healer—the closest thing to a grandmother he’d ever had. His gentle heart has changed the course of his entire life and he’s not sure it’s for the better, but he sees no other option.

A newly made knight who doesn’t know how to be one…

Sir Gowan is a warrior. He was a teacher of fighting when he caught the dragoness’s eye and she chose him as her new knight. Genlitha is a stubborn female and though Gowan tried to refuse, he found he could not turn down the magnificent dragoness, even though he knows nothing about being a knight. They have come to the Southern Lair so Genlitha can teach young fliers how to best navigate the tricky winds off the ocean, and to gain time for Gowan to learn how to be her proper partner.

Three humans. Two dragons. Attraction that cannot be denied…

Both Seth and Gowan are drawn to the lovely Livia, and Genlitha finds the attraction she had for Hrardorr when they were still both dragonets has only grown stronger over the years, but there are obstacles. Hrardorr has sworn to never choose another knight. Seth has sworn to be a healer, even though it’s not his true calling. Gowan is just trying to figure out how to survive in this new world of knights and dragons.

And then they are attacked from the sea by a mighty fleet with dragon-killing weapons, and the town and Lair find themselves totally unprepared to fight. It will be up to the five of them to save the town…if they can. It seems impossible, but they have to at least try.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Livia didn’t know why it was so, only that all the married knights were parts of trios. Happy trios, to be sure. She’d seen a few of the Lair women shopping in the square from time to time, and they all seemed happy enough. Nobody ever claimed the knights were bad husbands. Quite the contrary.

But for some reason, not many of the men who lived alongside the dragons up on the cliffs were married. There were few Lair wives and, because of that, few children.

Occasionally, a knight would form a liaison with a town woman, but nobody had become a Lair wife from the town in recent memory. The affairs seemed merely to be of convenience, not love everlasting.

“Mates, their dragon partners, and eventually children,” Hrardorr seemed to answer her question. “Little dragonettes and tiny human babies, with two dragon parents and three human parents.”

“All of them?” Livia asked, intrigued by the concept.

“Of course,” Hrardorr said. “That is the family unit of the Lair. They all share in the parenting of any offspring, dragon and human alike. It is the way we have always done it, since the first fighting dragon partnered with the first knight.”

“I had no idea. I mean, I’d heard things, but nothing like this. It sounds kind of…nice.” She marveled at the idea of a baby dragon being raised equally by humans and dragons, or a baby human calling a dragon papa. “Do you have children, Sir Hrardorr?”

The dragon’s mouth tightened. “No. And now, I never will.”

“Never is a very long time,” she said softly, wanting to offer comfort.

“Don’t I know it.” His tone was bitter.

“Being blind isn’t the end of the world,” she said, confronting his depression head on.

His great head reared back as if she’d struck him. “You know I’m blind?”

“I figured it out. A few of my father’s people do business at the Lair, and they bring back news of new arrivals. I assumed you’re the new dragon that has come here to recuperate. Am I wrong?”

A sigh gusted out of Hrardorr’s mouth, filling her sails for a brief moment. She had to change tack to get back to him, but he didn’t seem to notice.

“No, milady. You’re not wrong. I’m the damaged dragon who can’t even fend for himself anymore.”

“Seems to me you just bagged a menacing shark all by yourself and chomped him to little pieces without any help at all,” she mused. “You’re not helpless. Hopeless, maybe…and that can be changed.”

“You’re a strange female,” Hrardorr said, making her bark a laugh she hadn’t expected.

“You’re not the first person to tell me that,” she allowed, smiling.

“I’m not a person. I’m a dragon.” He bared his pointy teeth, as if grinning at her.

“Point taken, Sir Dragon.” She regarded him for a moment, searching for the right words, but she couldn’t find them. “I like fishing. I do it most days when my father is away. Maybe you’d like to meet me here again sometime? I mean, I need protection from the circling sharks, and I suppose you could make yourself useful in lowering their numbers before someone from the town ends up maimed or dead. The fishermen would be grateful, I’m sure, as would most of the townsfolk.”

“You don’t say.” Hrardorr looked as if he was thinking over her words. “I like to swim. And I also like the taste of shark.”

“Really? What does it taste like to you?”

“Like victory.”

My Review

I absolutely loved this one!!! It's not just a paranormal romance. It's also a strong about finding love, finding yourself, your true calling, and also picking yourself back up when you fall. It starts with a wounded dragon who was well known for his famous courage to protect. But he's withdrawn when he is blinded in battle and his ride- his bonded partner- is killed. I almost broke down for him. He's grumpy and stand offish and then a girl who's father basically left her makes friends with him. Livia is the sea fisherman's daughter. She runs the shipping and fishing businesses when he's gone and let's everyone think it's him. She's strong and brave and I love that she did so much for our dragon. She's also in love with the boy who has a heart of gold, he's supposed to be a knight but gave that up to help the old ailing healer. And then another dragon and rider come to town. And well, not only do we find excellent defense for a threat but we find a lovely pair for romance.

I've read a couple of books by this author and she is so much fun!! I love her style and her creativity! I'm also a super fan of dragons so she had me sold! Lol plus I love the twists she made with a wounded dragon finding a new sense of self! So with that said- I'm dying with that little mini cliff hanger and I absolutely need book two!!!!! I need it like yesterday! Lol 5 DRAGON PAWS!!!
