This is the start to a new dystopian series. Devin and Dylan are the main characters and seem to spend a whole lot of time running around. First their situations. Then when their parents die, they are taken in by the Rhodi- they are protectors. So then they begin to train with them. It's a coming of age story with dystopian feel and fantasy elements.
I actually liked a good bit about this book but there's a couple of things that I didn't. I didn't like the mix of technology with fantasy. Ok so, you have a car and an engine, but you can't make guns so you use staffs. Now I'd believe if the enemy couldn't be killed with guns so they don't use them but this wasn't the case. And I would have loved some more explanation of the setting. The actual places they were in. Geography vs actual placing. Now the characters are pretty good. But there's a good bit of them and everyone has a complicated back ground but none of them really go into depth about their issues. I did love the action though!! And the promise of what could be great with a little bit better detail!
Overall, this is a fun book. It's the start of the series and I plan on jumping into book two. I'd like to see more touched on with the world building. I'd like to see some more growth from the characters. And it was fun so I'd like to see how their journey continues. 3.5 PAWS!!
