Book Description:

When desire bites, there’s no patience for a slow burn.

While all seems quiet in Gladium Province, the Morgon Guard—the global justice force for the dragon hybrid race—knows their enemy is rebuilding its forces in the underground.

Valla Moonring, an assassin for the Order of the Morgon Guard, is ordered on a mission into the Wastelands of Aria—a formidable, icy wilderness fraught with all manner of dangers, including outlaws, deadly weather, and big-game predators.

To her great distaste, she’s partnered with a Nightwing Security operative, Conn Rowanflame, a Morgon with the aggravating ability to get under her skin. While she takes her mission seriously, Conn’s confident charm throws her off balance, a dangerous place to be in conditions like these. Especially when cold nights require close contact.

Sensual attraction binds them ever closer, igniting a passion of unexpected force—the soulfire. But when the hunters become the hunted, their bond could prove perilous. Even fatal…

Excerpt:

Conn slowed his descent as treetops came into view beyond the fading mist, which had thinned to nearly nothing in the past hour. Whipping open my wings, I landed softly on the hard ground among a grove of evergolds. Even in this frozen tundra, the giants famous for their flora of fire-gold leaves grew tall and thick-branched in abundance. I lifted my visor to a brilliant burst of color that contrasted against the brown earth and snow-swept embankments.
Bowen landed quietly behind me. “How about some lunch before we set out on foot?” He removed and tucked away his visor and unpacked his crossbow from its sheath on his back for the first time on this journey.
“Let’s get into the cover of trees,” said Conn, moving along the natural path. “And lunch sounds perfect.”
“Benta’s breakfast wasn’t enough for you?” I asked, meeting his long stride.
“I always have an appetite, sweetheart.”
“While you two continue flirting, I’ll find some small game nearby. Set up the hotpad over near that big evergold.”
Without a sound, Bowen disappeared into the trees.
“Flirting?” I scoffed. “I wasn’t flirting.”
“I was.” Conn grinned.
“Stop it.”
“I haven’t even gotten started yet.”
“You’re infuriating.”
“So you’ve said before.”
“Listen—” I put up both gloved hands to stop his snarky banter for just one second. “I’m glad we’re finally alone.”
“Me, too.” His lopsided grin made my heart flutter.
Exhaling a frustrated sigh, I stopped under a thick oak with ample coverage from above and unhooked my chest pack before dropping it to the ground. “There’s something I’ve been meaning to talk to you about…about last night.”
“Mmm. Last night.”
He removed his own pack and gloves, then pulled out the small, electronic hotpad. After opening the tripod that kept it off the ground, he turned it on. Gisa ordered us to use the hotpad instead of fire when we were in the open to avoid alerting predators or criminals to our presence.
Conn stood and propped his hands low on his hips. “Would you like a second round?”
“No…no.” I cleared my throat and shook my head, my ponytail sliding on the smooth leather of my jacket. “Actually, that should never have happened. I shouldn’t have let that happen. But I—”
“Couldn’t resist,” he finished, a devilish smile brimming his beautiful face. “It’s okay. It happens a lot.”
“You’re such an ass.” I rolled my eyes. “I could’ve resisted.”
“Could you?”
He broke his rigid stance and sauntered closer, a feral glimmer in his gaze. By instinct, I backed up a step, my wings scraping the rough bark of the evergold behind me. He moved into my personal space.
“What are you doing?” I asked, heart hammering.
He flattened one hand against the tree above my head, his finger grazing the arch of my wing. I shivered.
“Are you sure you could resist?”
I cleared my throat. “Of course,” I said, trying to sound confident, but my voice betrayed me and broke.
“Well…I couldn’t.” He brushed the back of his knuckles along my jaw. I held still, caught.
“Actually, I want to taste you again. Right now.”
Even stone-cold sober, I felt drunk from a single touch, longing to fall back into his arms and let him show me what his hazel-gold eyes promised without a word.
He leaned close, his warm breath grazing my ear.  “Let me taste you again, Valla.”
I planted my hands on his chest, wishing there weren’t the layers of thermal suit and leather between my palms and his rock-hard chest.
He nuzzled the shell of my ear with his nose, then his lips. “Let me.”
His darkened voice pleaded and demanded at the same time, spreading warmth between my legs. What had gotten into me? I pushed him out of my way and stormed toward a densely wooded area.
“Where are you going?” he laughed. “Running away?”
“I’ve gotta go to the bathroom,” I yelled over my shoulder.
“Not by yourself, you’re not.” His footsteps crunched across the thin blanket of snow and leaves behind me.
I whirled, heat burning up my neck, now from anger not lust. “Whoa, there, big boy.” I threw up a hand, halting him several feet away. “Look. You’re not my keeper. And just because we shared one kiss doesn’t mean anything. I’m going to relieve myself by myself. Do you understand?”
His wings twitched at his back. Agitated. Whatever.
“And stop scowling at me,” I called back as I spun and trekked off the path into the brush.

My review
I obsessively adore this author!! I accidentally discovered her when she wrote her veil series- demons and angels and such were awesome. But I think she absolutely stole my heart with her dragons of Morgon series! It's absolutely stunning and she is beyond gifted and I definitely think this series is topping them all. So we meet Kol's sister Valla and Conn both in the previous books but this time, we get their stories and POVs and I loved every second!!
So Valla is a Morgon Guard assassin, and she's damn good at her job. She's worked super hard to get there. And it didn't help that as THE Kol Moonring's little sister, she hasn't had a whole lot of dating experience but she's ok with that, except around Conn Rowanflame. He's cocky, dominant, sexy as hell, and makes her crazy. And he's a lady's man so she doesn't like him, until she figures out she's got him wrongly pegged. And Conn, he really is all of those things, but as a trusted part of Nightwing Security, he also takes his job serious and wants to stop the threats to both human and Morgon kind alike. So when they are sent together with another dragon to track down the horrible monster kidnapping and killing girls, they set out on a quite dangerous journey. The Larkosian army is evil and they want bad things that will destroy the good.
And though it's not light or happy most of the time, no it's dark and gritty and especially sensitive, it's still got some awesomeness that just keeps you glued to the pages! The writing is FANTASIC and Conn has his own humor to supply a little bit of light to the darkness that is plaguing this beautifully built world! And while I'm over the moon with satisfaction over the world building, the award really goes to two other things- spectacular characters and magnificent plots! It's not just Conn and Valla but the whole cast and there's a good bit of them, but if you've read this series, or the series that prequels this one, you'll see the same kids pop in as well as meet new ones. And they are all developed well and feel real! And the plot, holy crap with this new crazy spin on witches and a future of dragons, and Larkos and wow- just wow! I loved seeing the outer areas and tying them together and seeing different kinds of supers. And I think I'm gunna totally love Bastien!! And Bowen, I just want to take him and hug him and hold him tight. He broke my heart. And the little game Bowen, Valla and conn played- major giggle moment. I would say I'm impressed but I'm beyond that- and I KNOW everything Ms Cross writes is phenomenal so I can't argue with my own logic lol! With that said- I'm dying for the next book!! I can't wait to see what's going to happen next with that parting shocker of real dragons! Oh boy oh boy! 5 DRAGON PAWS!!

Love can stand the test of time. Can it rise above the taint of Hell?

Book Description:

Lady Katherine Blakely is married to a monster. On the same night she witnesses how low her husband can sink, she meets a charming stranger, a gentleman from top to toe. Yet even her gallant rescuer is possessed of a dark side.

Lord George Draconis Thornton, commander of the Dominus Daemonum, is on a mission to expel the demon prince Damas back to the underworld. But a golden-haired beauty derails his plans and stirs an attraction he’s never felt before, not even for his centuries-dead wife.

Discovering Lord Blakely is in league with Damas, George sweeps Katherine away from the chaos and devilry threatening her life. With every touch, their love grows by joyful leaps and bounds.

Sensing his enemy’s vulnerability, Damas kidnaps Katherine to his hellish lair, where he wages a sensual assault on her defenses. As George tears at heaven and earth to find her, he is painfully aware of only one way to save her soul. The cost will break her heart…and destroy his own.

Warning: Contains wolves in gentlemen’s clothing, a precipitous descent into Hell, and a frightening glimpse of a post-apocalyptic world where angels and demons wage war for dominion on earth.

Excerpt:

How do you know about the world of demons, George? How did you move as they did? I thought I had fainted by the pond and awakened beside the barn, but I didn’t, did I?”

Had she imagined being transported from the horses to the barn in a long blink?

No, you didn’t faint. It’s called sifting. A power of the angels, to move from place to place at will.”

But they weren’t angels.”

They were once.”

Fallen angels. Could this be possible? What did that make the man standing before her? He inhaled a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Perhaps I should define the two realms for you.”

That would be lovely.”

His mouth quirked at her sarcasm, though he chose not to comment. “There is the Flamma of Light and the Flamma of Dark.”

Flamma?”

Fire, in Latin, which is the common tongue between the heavenly and demonic hosts.”

She pulled her hand from his and stood, staring into the flames. “Why fire?”

He joined her and removed his wet coat. “I asked the same question once.” He winced as he peeled the coat off his right arm. A pool of red had soaked through his undershirt.

Oh God, your arm, George. You’re bleeding.”

It’s nothing.”

It’s not nothing.”

Just as he had unbuttoned her jacket, she swiftly unfastened his waistcoat, then his shirt and peeled them off him. Steering her gaze away from his finely sculpted chest and broad shoulders, she examined the cut more closely. She bent over and, with a quick rip, tore a long strip from her shift.

You needn’t do that, Katherine.”

Be still and let me mend you as best I can.”

He held his arm straight so that she could wrap the fabric around his arm.

Why fire?” she asked again, busying herself with the makeshift bandage.

Flamma are all touched by fire, an otherworldly power given to each of us.”

She remembered the way he moved, the way the demons moved, with supernatural speed and agility. A drop of rain dripped from his tousled hair, landing on his shoulder before rolling forward. She followed its path as it slid down and over his pectoral. Trying to regain her composure, she inhaled a deep breath, which was a mistake. She breathed in the heady scent of rain and beautiful man, her agitation amplified by his proximity and the undeniable power surging through his body. She longed to touch him, to know what all that strength would feel like under her fingertips, but she was paralyzed by her own desire and wavered on a dangerous precipice. When she’d cinched the bandage into a neat knot and finally chanced a glance at him, his smile nearly buckled her knees.

There,” she whispered. “That will stop the bleeding.”

I’m not so sure.”

What do you mean?”

His shoulders went rigid as if he were holding himself in tight control. Katherine knew his thoughts had wandered away from the wound in his arm. She asked again, “What do you mean, George?”

His eyes slid closed. “I love to hear my name on your lips.” He opened his eyes again, his jaw set in grave lines. “What I mean, my lady, is that I am bleeding inwardly, and I know of only one way to stop it.”

Katherine was well aware of the tension filling the room, of the rise of her heart rate, of the longing in his gaze, which surely matched her own. She realized she was tumbling over that cliff. And she didn’t care, quite content to drown in his aquamarine gaze.

How can I stop it, George? Tell me.”

I’d rather show you.”

My Review

First let me start with this... I FREAKING LOVE THIS AUTHOR!!! :) I'm not usually into historical type things but this book is just fantastic!! I knew some of what would happen- I read Gen and Jude's trilogy. The vessel series. But I didn't know THAT!!! Good lord I was not prepared for that much heartbreak. It was almost tear enduring to have that one piece of happiness taken away from you so traumatically. But no worries! This is a spin off series to continue the after math of what happened with the Flamma after Gen turned bad ass- just from the perspectives of George and Kat... Let me also say I really really loved George and Kat in the other series, but Gentleman George and Lady Katherine take this to a whole new level of fan-girl moments for me!!!

We start with Kat- Lady Katherine in here... This is hard because I know her as Kat, so bear with me. She is married to a horrible creature of a man. Oh I shouldn't even call him that. And she meets George at a society function where they each start to fall for each other. After a lot of work, they finally can come together and agree she can leave her stupid husband- only on paper to me- when the unthinkable happens. George is off fighting the demon fight while Kat is kidnapped by George's biggest demon enemy. I won't lie, they things she had to go through are not easily endured. She broke my heart. Hell, George broke my heart more.

And so, we have George. He really is the epitome of a gentleman even when he's all bad ass demon killing. He's so kind and gentle with Kat. He's got to work really hard for her. And he makes a vow to protect her forever. He literally keeps this promise- seriously, over a century and decades of heart break and defeat, he keeps that vow. He will never give up his hope and love for her, even when she does. It's so funny now to see the reactions that they had to each other when in the other book series. Speaking of- I flipping love Jude in here!! He's different, yes broody, but he's kinda funny and a little blood thirsty and of course freaking hawt!! But all of them are- including Damas... Oh the bad guy. I knew it was coming. But dammit I thought it was going to be physical pain torture and I almost can't hate him for how he played his role. He actually almost rescued Kat even if he just put her in a different kind of prison. And her pain was more mental from him. I'm almost... Hurt for him. It's hard to explain. I hated him with Gen, he was more jaded and evil to her, it was just different with Kat. I don't know how to put this into words. Be prepared for shock... How's that lol

And the ending, well now I just want more!!! :) I would love to see how Kat and George make out of this new reality and I'd love glimpses of Jude and Gen in the present too!

I love the writing style. This author can take anything and make it phenomenal. How does she do it? Who knows, I'm just glad she does! And the way she makes things play out, come together, it's a beautiful masterpiece here. I've been sold since book one that I've ever read of hers, but I'm hooked for life. Her books will be my drug of choice- always!! A spectacular 5 PAWS!!!

Excerpt:

I blotted my Petal Pink lips on a piece of memo paper and capped the lipstick.

“Dangit!”

Trying to retrieve the tube with the tip of my open-toe heel, I only succeeded in pushing the lipstick farther away. “Ugh.”

Unable to bend that far in my pencil skirt, I hiked the hem up to my thighs and crawled on all fours, shimmying my behind, then stretching my arm till my fingers finally gripped my favorite lipstick.

That’s when I heard a low, masculine whistle from someone standing behind me.

Scooting back, I shot off the floor and slid my hemline back to my knee, all under the steady gaze of Paxon Nightwing, silhouetted by the sunlight that filtered into the foyer of Linden and Burke.

Towering above me with jet-black hair and matching sharp-edged wings, wearing a charcoal button-down, black slacks, and a devilish smile, his voice crooned when he spoke. “Now that’s what I call a warm welcome.”

“I, um, well, I…”

He extended a bronzed hand. I reached out with my right, nearly dropping the lipstick again. I shifted it to my left hand. “I like pink.”

I like pink? I like pink! For God’s sake, Ella. How old was I? Five?

His extended hand engulfed mine, then he drew our bodies closer. Grinning wide and stroking his thumb across my knuckles, his melodious voice sounded sultry and sinful.

“So do I.”

I blinked stupidly till my brain started functioning again. He didn’t say a word, mesmerizing me with ridiculously deep brown eyes.

“I’m, uh, Ella Barrow.”

“Paxon Nightwing. Pleasure to meet you. But I think we’ve met before.”

I tugged on my hand. He didn’t let go, tightening his hold.

“Uh, well, I’m friends with Sorcha and Jessen.”

“Yes.”

I knew this guy was a player, the kind to make a girl swoon with a glance and charm the pants right off her. Literally. Jessen had even kissed him in a club once. And while his carousing behavior should make me want to run away, I couldn’t forget that Jessen had said on a scale of one to ten, his kiss was a ninety-nine.

He still held my hand, angling his body closer. “I’ve also seen you at the Vaengar games. With Kerrington.”

“Yeah. We’re, um, dating.”

“That’s a shame.”

I tugged again.

He released me. “I have an appointment with Sorcha Nightwing.”

“Yes. I know.”

Pulling myself together, I pressed the comm device on my desk and cleared my throat. “Mr. Nightwing is here.”

“Thanks, Ella. Show him to my office, please.”

Rounding behind the desk, I gestured down the hall. “This way.”

“After you.” A sly grin.

I tilted up my chin, pretending I wasn’t afraid of him, then led him toward Sorcha’s office. I was good at pretending.

As soon as I stepped in front of him, a primal shiver vibrated through my bones.
His eyes were on me. I felt his gaze, as if his gaze were a caress, brushing up my legs, curving over my behind, rounding my hips to the dip of my waist and finally settling on the blond waves that fell past my shoulders. By the time we reached the door to the office, my heartbeat hammered in my throat.

Gesturing for him to enter, I kept my eyes on the floor, trying desperately to regain control. He stopped in front of me, but I held my gaze until I realized I was fixated on his crotch. I jerked my head up. Amusement flickered across chiseled features. He was about to say something, but I didn’t give him the chance. I marched back up the hall to the receptionist area.

My Review
This series is MAGNIFICENT!!! Here's the Kicker, this is the last of the night wing series, which takes place before the Vale of Stars series. So if you read Waking the dragon, you know how this one ended, BUT I am still so freaking glad that this one is here, because I loved this one. With Jessen and Sacha, they are independent strong willed ladies who will fight for what they want. Ella has always been their timid, soft spoken, even meek friend. I now completely understand why. I am also seriously pumped that she learned how to fight her battles, because things would have turned out really bad for her. And who wouldn't swoon at Paxon. I mean, seriously, he's freaking gorgeous!
Ella is shy, but smart. She is timid, and yet she has the mind to be strong willed she just has to use her back bone. She has a degree in fine arts, and she's magical when she creates it. Yet, she still lives at home with her parents, doing what they think she needs to do, dating who they think she needs to date. She loves her parents, but sometimes biases will keep you down, not help lift you up, and her parents have several. So when she helps out Sacha at her office, and runs into Paxon, a whole slew of crazy begins. With Clayton, she is dating him because she should, yet, she doesn't even want him to touch her. With Paxon, she knows she can't have him and yet she's wants to strip her clothes off and climb him like a tree. It was a fantastic little picture she painted when she talks about him :)
Paxon is willing to throw a lot of things away for Ella. His dragon wants her something fierce. Yet, when it comes down to it, he lets her chose. It was quite romantic how he did it. He's thing big, masculine, heep of goodness and yet when things come down to it, he let her have all the power. Yeah, I loved him. :) And when Clayton threats Ella, and by fault Paxon, Ella needs to let Paxon go, but she can't. Some secrets revealed had her head whipping, but she finally found her footing to make things work.
I think this one is the most complex of the stories, for the ladies at least. Jessen and Sacha are so different from Ella, so she changed the most. In my eyes, anyways. And she also seems to have the hardest time. She always believed what people told her. She was prim and proper and appropriate. Always interesting when those things go out the window. :) I absolutely love this whole series, and the companion series, and I adore this this author. Seriously, whatever she touches is like magical fairy dust :) I think everyone should read at least one of her books, just once. Because it's like drugs, you'll be hooked for life. I am anyway :) LOL 5 BEAUTIFULLY MAGICAL DRAGON PAWS :)
