Supernatural Freak
by Louisa Klein
Genre: Urban Fantasy/Paranormal
Release Date: January 30th 2013

Summary from Goodreads:

When paranormal expert Robyn Wise is offered an outrageous sum of money to cure a boy who is turning into a dead tree, she's very sceptical. A politician ready to pay that much to make his son stop growing branches instead of hair? Come on! She's more likely to be abducted by aliens. This is a trap. Or much worse. And, of course, it's much worse.

The child is turning into a dark portal, created by a powerful entity determined to absorb Fairyland's power. This means that not only queen Titania and her court are in danger, but the very balance of the magic fluxes.

Robyn'd rather stick a pencil in her own eye but, to learn how to destroy the portal, she has to sneak into the Wizardry Council, a place full of wizards who are hiding something—though it’s certainly not their dislike of her.

There, she discovers a terrible secret that could help to overthrow Fairyland's enemies for good, but puts her in the midst of an ancient and deadly war, and not as a bystander, but as the main target.

My review

This is a unique, action packed, fun adventure ride of a story!! Robyn is our leading lady, who deals with the supernatural. Somehow, with all she knows about, she's also kinda tunnel visioned, not thinking outside the box. Lol what I mean is that she surprised me with some of her choices and thoughts. But she learns as she goes so it was fun seeing that side of her. Plus we get to learn too. There's some fun humor too! And no missing supernatural types- magic, werewolves, fae, elves, ghosts, witches/wizards, and some of the others I will let you find out about in your reading. And I liked the characters. Some more than others but that's always the case. I would love to see a little more input on the lore of some of the other creatures- we get a good dose of the Wizard and councils. :)

The writing is well done but I've read a few reviews that have trouble because of language barriers. Well kids, not every great writer is from the good ole US of A, so I take those little quotes and phrases and use my own imagination there. No reason to give a negative review because your vocabulary is lacking... Ok rant over! Lol but seriously, the writing kept me glued to the pages, the action was well done, and the story was intriguing! What's not to like! But I will agree with a few reviewers who said the ending was too soon. Or for me, it was a little rushed and I felt we were missing the "Sebastien" part. Can't spoil but in that department, I wanna know more. And I agree- put that part in book two and you'll make me a happy camper! With that said, I really did like this book and I intend to pick up book two and see where it goes from here!! And I loved the unique aspects so I'm a fan. 4 PAWS!!
