Excerpt Prologue

PEOPLE LIE. EVERY SINGLE DAY.
In fact, most of our world was built on the foundation of lies, some with the intent to serve the greater good, and others with the intent to serve one person’s giant ambitions. But the root of every lie is exactly the same. They’re all equally deceitful, treacherous propositions spewed from the mouths of men and woman alike.
Lies have the power to sound right, yet feel wrong. They have the ability to confuse your heart and twist your mind. The problem is, sometimes these lies become easier to believe than the truth. They become a sort of safety net from reality, a way to avoid what lingers in the back of your mind. And some say that over time, if you believe them long enough, they become real.
At least, that’s what my mother had hoped would happen in my case. But just like every lie ever told, all it takes is one small crack in that foundation for the whole thing to come crashing down.
And it did.
Because everything I thought I knew about myself was a lie. A beautiful and heartrending lie. I wasn’t the Defect my parents would regretfully see off to college before turning their backs on me. I wasn’t the weak friend who didn’t have enough backbone to stand up for what’s right, nor was I the loner without a purpose or a chance at real love. And I sure as hell wasn’t the weapon Bael and the members of the Darkyn Coven intended me to be.
But I am the weapon the Primeval Coven needs me be. Or so they keep saying.
In my Coven, there are two kinds of people: The Hunters and the Witches. They used to hate each other, even though they were on the same team, back in the old days when cars didn’t exist and time was tracked on a sundial. They hated each other so much that eventually a war was brought on by one of the original Witches—a Divine named Mourdyn.
The war was known as the Great Battle of the Covens. It was meant to wipe out the existence of every Hunter, and it devastated the population of my people, the Primevals. It annihilated the population of the Darkyns—the Witches who abandoned our Coven to follow the whims of Mourdyn and his persuasive lies.
But even though a lie can be struck down—imprisoned even—it can’t ever be fully erased. The scars it leaves behind on this earth and in our hearts are eternal, and somewhere along the way, someone will pick that lie back up and breathe life into it once more. Give it the wings it needs to rise again. Only, this time, that lie will be stronger, with an even greater purpose.
And that’s the part that scares me the most.
I glance down at my leg. The burn marks left behind from Bael’s wrath still tingle with echoes of the scorching fire he sent after me after I escaped with Weldon, reminding me that I’m nowhere near ready for the fight that’s sure to come.
And that has to change.
That’s part of why I agreed to come here to Ethryeal City—to the heart of our Coven. It’s where Hunters and Witches in an affinity bond enter as Night Watchmen and leave as Elites. Where those who have broken our Coven laws go to face the High Priesthood. Where those who need refuge… those like me… come to hide.
The only thing is, I never agreed to being separated from everyone I know. They call it debriefing, but with every day that passes, I’m beginning to wonder… to question how long it actually takes.
It’s been seven days and fourteen hours since my unfortunate and unplanned encounter with Bael—the Demon King of the Underground. In these last seven days, I’ve made more promises than I can count on two hands. And in those promises, I think I’ve told more lies than I ever have in my life.
Honesty seems to have slipped out of her bedroom from inside my integrity and, in her place, deceit has crept in with the offer of survival. If I just nod along with the many blending faces all interviewing me, then maybe somehow, I’ll make it out of this phase in my life alive. I’ll make it back into Jaxen’s arms and back into the graces of the friends I’ve come to trust.
But what deceit doesn’t offer is solace, because you can’t fool deceit. It knows every trick in the book.
Every day, twice a day, for the past four days, I’ve recounted in specific order how my friends and I nearly lost our lives in hopes that we’d gain an advantage on the Darkyn Coven and intercept them from taking the Dagger of Retribution. The one that has the power to initiate the removal of the Veil that separates the Underground and all its evil from the humans. The very Dagger that only I have the power to touch.
I’ve been singularly interviewed by every member on the Priesthood, and then by every general and Elder within the hierarchy of our Coven.
And I’m so very tired.
For the past four days, since I left the safe house beneath the church owned by the Night Watchmen, when I haven’t been in a laboratory undergoing strenuous testing, I’ve spent the remaining hours kept in a holding cell stripped of all personality. Chained down by claustrophobia. Shackled to the fears given free rein to destroy my hope.
I don’t have a home anymore. I have four white walls, one white jumpsuit, a white bed, white sheets… the color was bleached from my life the moment I crossed into the legendary Ethryeal City. I keep trying to remember the last time I saw Jaxen’s face, but my soul has fed so often on the happiness of that memory, I fear it’s disappearing. And I don’t know when I’m going to see him again.
They took everything away from me just to keep me repressed. Controlled. But what they don’t know is they cannot control what they do not own, and they do not own me. I can’t trust anyone. No one but myself, because all I know is I am more of a threat to them than I thought.
And the High Priesthood doesn’t know what to do with me.

Set before Everlasting, the addicting start to the Night Watchmen Series, The Gramm Curse is a novella told from Jaxen Gramm’s perspective.

How far is one willing to go for love?

Before finding a love that shakes the entire foundation of his world, Jaxen Gramm only had his Witch, Jezibelle Beaumont, to worry about. He’s her Hunter, and he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe from the curse placed on his bloodline, even if it means keeping her far from his heart.

But when a spell is offered that has the power to remove the curse, temptation clouds the ethical judgment of the Gramm brothers and their Witches.

In this action-packed novella, enter the dark recesses of Jaxen’s mind as he battles with himself over a decision that could not only cost him his life, but the life of fellow Coven members. Reunite with Gavin, Cassie, Mack, and Jezi as they dance around the dangers of a civil war on the brink of beginning.

Medical research scientist Elena Arcos has always lived her life under the radar, which is not easy to do when you live with the craziest woman in the world. But eccentric Aunt Uza is a picnic compared to the other people who enter her orderly life after she is shot in a convenience store robbery.

Elena finds herself rocketed from comfortable predictability to supernatural insanity courtesy of her own private angel of death who happens to have the sexiest accent on earth and a body to match. Her death angel is convinced she’s some kind of freaky half vampire thing and that her deceased dad was the real deal: a blood sucking monster.

Yeah, right. She’ll play along, but then she doesn’t have much choice seeing how as the guy claims to be some immortal law enforcer and has taken her prisoner.

* * *

Nikolai Itzov had expected to fight the urge to torture the progeny of his father’s murderer, but he’d never anticipated battling the urge to kiss her her.

As a Slayer, an elite law enforcer descended from Azrael himself, his charge from the Underveil General is clear: Kill her or die. He has been told she is one of them--an Undead. Nothing but a parasite to be destroyed. But he has been told wrong.

Nikolai and Elena find themselves in a life and death battle to stop a plot designed to lift the Underveil and enslave humans.

With her analytical mind and his centuries of training and experience, they might be able to foil the plot with their lives and maybe their hearts intact. But in order to succeed, he must help her become the very thing he hates the most: an Undead.

Chapter One
This couldn’t be happening; things like this happened to other people.
The skinny guy in the black baseball cap leveled the gun at the clerk behind the counter and without a word, pulled the trigger. Elena dropped to the floor between the candy shelves and car care products, ears ringing.
She studied the man’s reflection in the circular convex mirror above the beer cooler as he rummaged through the cash register, stuffing his pockets with bills. His reflection was distorted, but she could still make out enough to give a description to the police. It was impossible to tell how tall he was, but he had black tangled hair and unnaturally pale skin. His blue flannel shirt was filthy and torn. More animal than human, he cocked his head to the side in a swift, jerky motion, then stared into the mirror. His eyes were…red?
The slam of the cash register drawer made Elena flinch. In horror, she watched through the mirror as the killer stalked to the far side of the store, passing the milk cooler one aisle over from her. Without a sound, she slid out of the center of the aisle, flattening up next to the metal shelves of candy, hoping he wouldn’t spot her in the mirror. He paused, met her eyes in the reflection, and laughed. It was a hideous, feral laugh that made her body tense in a terrified rigor. She’d never heard anything like it. Almost metallic, it sounded like more than one person laughing. In the mirror, she watched him round the corner of her aisle.
Run, her body screamed. Elena leapt to her feet and flew for the door. Run! As she skidded around the corner at the end of the aisle, a gunshot rang out, followed by a searing pain as if her shoulder blade had exploded. Her knees gave way, and her head hit the floor with a sickening crack.
Footsteps. A pause.
“Get up!” the man growled in his unnatural, metallic voice, shoving her with his foot.
Play dead. She remained on her belly, eyes closed, breathing shallowly. Please, let him think I’m dead. Blood from her shoulder oozed under her cheek. He kicked her ribs, and she groaned.
“It’s a shame I’ve already had dinner,” he said.
Bang.
Oh God. He had shot her again, and pain raged through her body like fire radiating from her shoulder blade. His leisurely footsteps were followed by the tinkle of the bell on the door.
She was going to die.
For twenty-six years, Elena Arcos hadn’t even really lived, and now it was over. Always waiting for something to change, something to give her purpose, someone to take her away. But that had never happened. She had lived her life under the radar, trying to not make waves. Trying to conform. Waiting. Waiting…for what?
For nothing.
She was going to die, dammit. Right here, on the filthy floor of the Corner Quick Mart. Just another news headline with no backstory whatsoever.
“Roll over and look at me.” The male voice was deep, calm, and tinged with an exotic accent she’d never heard before. The timbre and confidence of the voice commanded compliance, but Elena found herself unable to move.
The bell on the door hadn’t jingled again. This was someone who was already in the store—but she had been the only customer.
“I said, roll over.”
“C-can’t.” Just the mere attempt to speak caused such intense pain she was certain she would faint.
“Bullshit. Your act worked on that worthless, thieving bastard, but it won’t work on me.”
Act? Undoubtedly, this was a death-experience hallucination. The power of his voice combined with his thick accent made her want to obey his order and roll over so she could put a face with the voice. She placed her palm on the floor in order to push up, but it slipped out from under her in the slick pool of her blood spreading across the grungy vinyl tiles. She whimpered as her chest slammed painfully back to the floor.
His voice rumbled near her ear. “Weak, pathetic creature.”
She cried out as she was yanked roughly onto her back.
“Open your eyes!” the deep voice commanded. “Do it. Stop wasting my time.”
Dressed in black, a magnificent tower of a man with ebony hair stood astride her, hands on his hips. He was scowling—eyes narrowed. He leaned closer and stared. Surely, this beautiful male creature was the angel of death, come to release her from the pain.
She looked into his gold eyes, glad this would be her last memory. She would leave life with the image of this perfect face in her mind and his forceful voice in her brain. Even through the mirage-like haze of pain, she noticed the well-developed muscles in his arms as he reached behind his head and drew out a long, brilliant sword from a sheath behind his back. He held it over his head like a knight from Arthurian Legend, the glimmering tip of the blade pointing down at her chest.
The pain felt like it was far away as she focused on his beautiful, fearsome form. Elena found herself calm rather than frightened as she stared up at the amazing creature preparing to plunge a sword into her heart.
She had never envisioned death like this. She had always assumed it was a horrible, shattering experience. This was…almost pleasant.
“I’m ready,” she whispered.
A puzzled expression crossed his face. “I can’t understand you. If you have last words, spit the blood out of your mouth so you can speak.”
She closed her eyes, beginning to slip away under the surface of unconsciousness. Strong fingers on her jaw jerked her head to the side.
“Spit!” he ordered.

She smiled at the memory of the beautiful face of her angel of death as she succumbed to the darkness.

My Review
Oh goodness I found a new series to stalk!! And holy moley there's no werewolves!! A thrill ride with HAWT male pieces and scary magic with a little torture and a crazy cat lady... It's fantastic!! Plus the story literally starts with the leading lady being shot in a convenience store robbery. Way to start out with a bang! Well a couple of bangs if you must know hahahahaha Elena seems normal. She's a biologist in a hospital. She works, pays bills, needs candy, then she gets shot in a robbery and the ish hits the fan. She sees an angel of death but he's no angel but he is death. He's a slayer. Poor Elena is literally dragged, or kidnapped lol, into a mythical world of magic and shifters and vampires. And she doesn't understand it but she's the one they are all after. Some want to kill her and some need her to fulfill a prophecy. He'll she doesn't even know she's more than human. I love her. She's awesome and I loved her defiance of supposedly the scariest slayer alive. I loved finding out about her powers and her secrets. I wanna be her new BFF! But with ear plugs :) Nik is a holy HAWT piece of sex on a stick. Though I'd like to beat him with that stick for his stupid decisions sometimes, I fell in love with him anyways. He was suppose to kill Elena not fall for her. But of course fate is fickle and his love will save lives. He's of course all alpha male but when he realizes all his decisions affected so many people he's a little broken. I liked him trying to put the pieces back together. The world building is awesome and the plot is suspenseful and full of action with some steamy romance on the side! You get to see both POVs and I loved being in both of their heads because you see so much more. I was hooked. Hell I'm still hooked, I want more. And the side characters I loved then. Stefan, Vlad, aunt Uza, Aleski. I won't tell you who they are and what they mean but the are AWESOME!!! Gimme gimme book 2 please!! 5 MAGNIFICENT PAWS!!

The Donor Review with Giveaway!!

Full Donor Novella Cover Final
Final Full Wrap of The Donor
Synopsis:
Casey Williams and her family are poor. Her parents work non-stop and so does she, just so they can keep the trailer roof from leaking. They’re getting by fine enough when the headaches start. Then there’s the nosebleeds. And the inevitable doctor’s bills. Fortunately for Casey, there’s MyTrueMatch.com: an exclusive, quick, and almost easy way to pay it all back before her parents even have to know. All she has to do is give a man she’s never met whatever he wants from her body.

time in hand
Well this one is not something I expected, or ever read anything like it. Let me see if I can explain it without ruining it. What would you do if you found out you were dying and very soon? Well, Casey is going to use her tom left to help her struggling family. She finds out about this online site where you can be a donor. Donor can mean many things but I won't tell you because my mind was spinning with options. But it's done wonderfully. Casey is eighteen and she can't afford college because her family is barely making it. But they are loving and she freely gives her time to make money to help support them. She is a beautiful character. With all of her illness issues she travels far to meet a man who will pay her to donate. Turns out he's lovely and has his own struggles. But she's selfless even if she thinks she's selfish. Jonah gets this. And so their very unique relationship begins. There's a cool way that the story unfolds. It goes from present to past. There's little flashbacks that continually tell you more if the story without throwing info dumps in. And I'm also human warn you that this is a hard topic and very realistic. It's heart wrenching and heart warming all at the same time. But you know, I didn't cry until I read the afterthought of the author. I will say to ms Nikki, I'm so sorry and at the same time thank you for giving me a glimpse into your real life. This is a very real, sweet, tear jerking story with a little supernatural on the side. I loved it. I'm hoping Ms Nikki will continue with where she left off. It may not lead to a happily ever after but I'd want it just the same. 5 PAWS!!
