THE BLOOD SCION Blurb:

I was just a reporter, trying to stay ahead of my student loans. I knew the rules, and I

followed them.

I thought I knew how the world worked—humans lived their petty little lives in the safety of the

sun. We loved and fought and—when the sun sank—we scurried behind our walls and lived in

fear. That is when the monsters came out to play.

And even in the safety of the sun, we knew who ruled us.

The Houses. And their Scions.

Everyone knows the great Houses and their Scions—they are feared and loved and hated and

envied. They are the gods who walk the shadows and rule all of our lives. They are salvation

and death.

And somehow, I am one of them.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“Farley?”

I blink, and stare at my intern. She’s a tiny little thing, and it occurs to me—not for the first

time—that I have no business putting her in an office like this. We aren’t doing the smart

thing—we don’t toe the House line.

We’re too little for them to care, but I’m well aware that it’s not exactly safe.

“What is it?”

“You have a lunch appointment, ma’am.”

I frown. “Since when?”

“Hendin set it up.”

I breathe a curse. Kevin Hendin might be the best damn editor I’ve ever met, but he’s still a

fucking pain in the ass. I swallow that thought down and save the draft I’m working on, rising

and shrugging into my suit coat. “Where?”

“Silver and Ivy.”

I go still. Who the hell are we meeting that can afford S&I? It’s one of the finest restaurants

in the city, completely human, and expensive as fuck.

Winston took me there when I graduated from NYU. Of course, it was for a tiny glass of wine

and a shared dessert—neither of us could afford more than that—but it was a sweet gesture

that meant a lot, especially coming from my ridiculously practical brother.

“Ma’am?”

I blink out of my thoughts to focus on my intern, and snatch up my laptop and phone. Shove

both with my wallet into my messenger bag and snag my glasses and notebook before I dart

out.

It’s ridiculous to use a notebook, these days. Everyone has gone digital—what was a gathering

wave before Brakken—became a way of life in the aftermath. The Houses controlled everything

after, and pushed tech hard. Some people believed it was out of kindness.

It wasn’t.

But I’ve never been blinded by the pretty veneer of the Houses or their Scions.

Silver and Ivy is one of the last places in New York that can still maintain their human only

clientele. Because they cater to the wealthy, and even in the aftermath of the plague and all the

change that the Houses inflicted on us, the wealthy maintains a level of untouchability. They are

protected by that comfort of security that money can buy.

Even the wealthiest in our country could be bought by one of the Houses, but I think it amuses

them to let the one percent cling to the illusion that they are still different from the rest of us.

I step into S&I and belatedly realize that I don’t know who I’m meeting. I mutter a soft curse

and the eyebrow of the host twitches in response.

No, I suppose he isn’t used to young reporters with a gutter mouth spilling into his lunch hour. I

grin, and run a hand through my hair. I’m about to screw up his whole day.

I amble up to where he wait and he gives me a frosty stare.

“I’m meeting someone,” I say.

His gaze sweeps over me and his lips curls just a little, all annoyed disdain that pisses me off.

“And you are?”

“Farley Hart.”

His eyes go wide and he pales, so much so I take a step back. Something is very wrong about

all of this, and Winston always told me to listen to my gut. I take another step, and a hand

clamps down on my arm, rooting me to the spot.

It’s icy and burning and so damn unmovable. I know, even before I let my gaze crawl up.

Shiny boots, a pristine black suit that cost more than my degree, a startlingly white shirt with a

skinny black tie. Wide shoulders, thin waist, and a hand that’s fucking huge, latched onto me.

A ring glints on his finger and I focus on that, on the strange sigil worked into the metal.

It’s not gold, and it sure as hell isn’t silver. It’s almost dull. Iron?

“Oh shit,” I mutter.

A vampire is holding me, keeping me from bolting. And if that weren’t bad enough—it’s a damn

Blood Prince.

THE SCIONLESS HOUSE Blurb:

Twelve Houses. Twelve vampire lines. We ruled from the shadows, and manipulated

the world, and when humans came too close to destruction, we intervened.

Every House has a Scion. A fragile, easily broken human that stood shoulder to shoulder with

the house Princes and Princesses.

Except for ours. The Ravens, House Cantelie.

We've been without a Scion for almost fifteen years.

But that will change...and her life will be mine to protect.

Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Synopsis:
Jennifer Anne Davis’ best-selling True Reign series captivated readers from the very first page. Now, get ready to become entangled in the follow-up series, Reign of Secrets. In this new series, follow Allyssa, the daughter of the beloved Emperor Darmik and Empress Rema— and find out what happens after happily ever after.
Seventeen-year-old Allyssa appears to be the ideal princess of Emperion—she’s beautiful, elegant, and refined. She spends her days locked in a suffocating cage, otherwise known as royal court. But at night, Allyssa uses her secret persona—that of a vigilante—to hunt down criminals and help her people firsthand.
Unfortunately, her nightly escapades will have to wait because the citizens of Emperion may need saving from something much bigger than common criminals. War is encroaching on their country and in order to protect her people, Allyssa may have to sacrifice her heart. Forced to entertain an alliance through marriage with a handsome prince from a neighboring kingdom, she finds herself feeling even more stifled than before. To make matters worse, the prince has stuck his nosy squire, Jarvik, to watch her every move.
Jarvik is infuriating, bossy and unfortunately, the only person she can turn to when she unveils a heinous plot. Together, the unlikely pair will have to work together to stop an enemy that everyone thought was long gone, one with the power to destroy her family and the people of Emperion. Now the cage Allyssa so longed to break free from might just be the one thing she has to fight to keep intact. In order to save her kingdom, she will have to sacrifice her freedom, her heart, and maybe even her life.

Excerpt
Allyssa despised sparring in a dress. However, that was the way her father had taught her to fight. He said if someone attacked her, she would be in a gown, so she had to be able to maneuver in heavy fabric.
“Faster,” Marek instructed. “You’re not focusing.”
She wanted to growl because he was right, she was too distracted. Putting all thoughts of the pretty prince out of her mind, she gave Marek her full attention. He swung his sword, hitting hers near the hilt, making her drop it. Not intending to lose their match so easily, she twisted and came in close to him. When he went to grab her, she rammed her elbow into his stomach. He hunched over and she yanked him down, slamming her knee into his face.
  He dropped his sword.
  “I win,” she declared.
Catching his breath, he wiped his forehead. “You seem to have gained a few new moves.” Not a question.
“Perhaps,” was all she said in reply. The training room was lined with her personal guards. She knew her father didn’t want her practicing—he’d rather she prepare for the ball. But in order to make it through dinner and dancing, she had to release her anger and frustration.
Marek took their wooden swords and put them back on the rack.
“I’m not ready to return to my rooms.” She still felt off balance and unsettled.
He glanced to the door where Mayra and Madelin were waiting for her. “I need to go over some security details with my father,” Marek stated.
“Then go.” She waved him away. “I’ll only be a few more minutes.”
He briefly spoke with the guards before he said, “Your Highness,” and left.
As soon as he was gone, she put leather gloves on and went to the hay figure secured to the wall. Taking a deep breath, she started punching it, imagining the dummy was the prince. Smiling, she started hitting it harder and faster, allowing all of her aggression to evaporate.
Someone started clapping, and she spun around about to yell at whoever had interrupted her.
Prince Odar stood there with a smirk.
“What are you doing here?” she demanded, wiping the sweat off her forehead with her arm. He was accompanied by two of his soldiers and the squire she noticed earlier in the Throne Room.
He clicked his tongue. “A testy remark from someone so delicate and lovely.”
Her eyes narrowed. She was dirty, smelly, and certainly not the picture of a princess at the moment. The squire clasped his hands behind his back, staring daggers at her. He must not approve of a woman who could take care of herself, knew how to fight, and who dared to sweat. She hated him almost as much as she hated the prince.
“I’m sorry, Your Highness,” she said, trying to keep the detest from her voice. “Please excuse me, I must prepare for this evening.”
Mayra rushed forward and placed a cloak upon Allyssa’s shoulders. The princess yanked the hood up, concealing herself so no one from the court would see her all sweaty. She swept out of the room, not looking back. She could have sworn she heard the prince chuckling as she hurried down the corridor.
“Why didn’t you use the opportunity to speak with the prince?” Mayra asked, trying to keep up. “He obviously sought you out.”
Allyssa’s eyes sliced over to her lady-in-waiting. “Because,” she snapped, “I don’t want to talk to someone who flatters with pointless words.”
Mayra laughed. “He is rather charming.”
“He appears to be exactly as a prince should,” Allyssa said. “And I have no interest in princes.”
  “Aiming a bit higher?”
“No,” Allyssa replied. “I’m aiming for someone a bit more real.”

My Review
I can't believe I'm saying this-- I read a non fantasy book and I'm OBSESSED!!! Oh yeah this one is now a must read, must follow, must have the next one adapt!! Well, it's kinda fantasy but it doesn't have werewolves or magic or anything, but it has awesome swords!! Lol and I'm mind blown with how good this one was! A young girl who is princess, in line to become queen of the empire must find a way to marry for the good of the kingdom, find out who is trying to assassinate her family, find her best friend from kidnappers and try not to fall in love with the squire of the prince she's supposed to marry. Oh and she can fight like nobody's business! Wanna read it now?! This is my first book I've read by Ms Jennifer and I must say, I now need everything she's written!! Oh and before you even start reading she put a disclaimer that she likes cliff hangers and you must read at your own peril! HA!! Oh and that cliff hanger, I think my brain malfunctioned because I just stared at the book. Complete numb moment before I went haywire!

Allyssa is princess of Emperion, and she has been raised for it since birth. Her parents are awesome. Her ladies in waiting are awesome. Her personal guard is awesome. The characters here are the biggest plus of the whole book but the plot will definitely suck you in and blow your mind. She has a great life but a war is coming and though she's strong she needs to be stronger. She's kind but also sometimes hard. Well that's not nice but true, she wants her freedom but continuously gives it up for her country.

The writing and world building are phenomenal. Again, no magic, but the fantasy world built here makes up for it. And to top it off, the romance actually made the book so much better. I can't believe I said that either. Lol I'm seriously anxious for book two and I absolutely cannot wait to reread this one right before I get my hands on it. Yes, must read, many times. I know I've been a little vague on several things but I won't spoil things at all. Not for this one. I must have book two!!! So, yes, 5 PAWS- it's so worth it!!

My Review

This is kinda cool, set in a dystopian world, it's a paranormal romance. It's cities are mostly abandoned and the few cities that aren't are crazy. Fort Knox has nothing on this security. We learn first about Zac and how his life came to be, then a little about Lyla, and how she is connect to Zac though she doesn't know it. We learn how the old forms of Roman type empire arranged marriages to family members are just cringe induced. LOL Yeah, I know people used to marry their cousins and such, but I just can't fathom that. But it has come down to that. And a big complaint for me is the actual romance scenes. No one stops in the middle of a fire, or a battle, to get down and dirty. Seriously. The scenes were just misplaced, and could have been thought out a little better, but as a short story, it's not meant to have long drawn out moments. But the world building was so cool. So I'm a little on the fence here.

Zac is a great character to follow, as is Lyla, in their overall moments, but sometimes, I had to really think about what they were saying, doing, feeling, because sometimes I was just a little wowed. And then something would happen to make me be like- oh how cool. LOL   When Zac first sees Lyla, he doesn't know who she is, just that she's an elite and he knows he needs her in his life. Lyla is so intrigued by him as well, but some things have a time and place and she follows her mother and uncle's demands always. Some of this is also a little lacking for me. Lyla tested in the high ranges for her ability and yet Oswald was never tested, but all elites are supposed to be tested. Elites hunt the shifters. Lyla is an elite, Zac is a shifter. I would have liked a little more back story with this part too.

The action and suspense of the book was well written though. If I took out the romance scenes, or placed them differently, I would have really liked this book, and added a little more explanations, like how the scenes shifted so quickly. The conductor is chasing them, then he just isn't. The name on Zac's guitar case. The letter from Zac's father. But seriously, the action and the world building was so darn good. Yes, I can compartmentalize. LOL I do believe I would like to read book two, just to see if some things get changed, or smoothed out, because the world created here has so much goodness. I think it will be interesting :) With that said, I still love werewolves and that won't change :) 3.5 PAWS!!!

FOREVER WITH YOU Excerpt

I cradled my drink as Cam sauntered back to the pool tables. My mind wasn’t made up on the whole visiting them thing yet. Maybe I would. Maybe I wouldn’t.
            “Want another rum and coke?”
My lips curled up at the sound of Nick’s rich, deep voice. We’d been chatting on and off since I plopped my butt down on the stool, and he had seemed happy that I was there.
Total bonus points lottery with this guy.
“I’m good, but thanks.” The last thing I wanted to be was drunk. I smiled at him, pleased when his heavily hooded gaze dipped again. “Are you guys usually this busy on the weekend?”
I could see that small talk was something Nick excelled at, which made sense, considering his occupation. He was an equal opportunity charmer. Women flocked to him at the bar. The other bartender, the girl with the pink glasses, seemed to take it all in stride.
“Not sure if you really call this busy, but Saturdays usually bring a larger crowd.” He glanced down the bar before continuing. “So you went to school with them?” he asked, jerking his chin in the direction Cam had roamed off to.
“Yeah.” Leaning forward, I placed my elbows on the bar. “I had no idea they had connections here. Total surprise.”
“Small world,” he said, echoing my earlier thought. “But you’re not very close with them.”
It was a statement, not a question. “What makes you think that?”
“Well, if you were, I guess you’d be over there with them. Or …”
Nick was observant. “Or what?”
One side of his lips curled up as he folded his arms across his chest. The movement drew my attention. I was such a visual creature. Not that anyone would blame me right now. The black shirt he wore stretched around well-defined biceps. “Or you’d rather spend the time with me.”
The twisty motion in my belly cranked up a notch. “Am I that transparent?”
“In the best possible way.” He picked up a bottle. “I’m glad you did stop by. Every time the door opened last night, I looked up and hoped it was you.”
            “Is that so?”
“I speak the truth.” His smile was lazy. “Did you finish unpacking?”
            “Yep.”
“Were there any more rat bastard combinations?”
I laughed. “There were a few more.”
“Kind of mad I missed out on them.”
“There’s always later.” I toyed with my glass as I met and held his stare. “So, Nick, do you have a last name?”
“Blanco,” he replied after a brief hesitation. “Do you?”
“Keith.” I grinned as he unfolded those arms. “I have another question for you.”
Moving in, he placed his hands on the bar. “Ask away.”
“Do you have a girlfriend?” My breath caught a little when he leaned in suddenly. Our mouths were close enough that we were breathing the same tiny patch of oxygen. “Or a boyfriend?”
Nick didn’t bat an eyelash. “Nope to both. How about you?”
            Bonus points explosion!
“None,” I said, welcoming the tingle that swirled down my spine as his breath warmed my lips.
He tilted his head to the side, lining up his mouth with mine with just a fraction of an inch between us. I started to feel a little flushed. “You have plans tonight, Stephanie Keith?” he asked, voice deeper and rougher.
I shook my head as my pulse tripped all over itself in a happy little dance.
Nick’s grin spread into the kind of smile I knew left a trail of women in its wake. “You do now.”

Excerpt:

He’d let her fall asleep.
It was the first clear thought that ran through Shea’s mind when she opened her eyes. That and the fact that Derek was still with her. His heat pressed against her back, and his arm draped heavily across her waist. They were lying side by side on her bed, her body tucked up close against his.
Yet even as she responded in pleasure, she tensed.
Darkness was falling. They’d spent the day making love, and now the sun was setting. Night was creeping in. She stared at the oil painting that hung on the wall until her nerves began to crawl. Even the littlest thing could set her Somnambulist off—and today had been anything but normal—yet she’d let herself be lulled into sleep.
What had she been thinking?
“There you are,” a deep voice rumbled. The hand against her stomach flexed, and she was pulled more tightly against the big male form behind her.
A muscled thigh slipped between her legs, and Shea arched as a soft kiss was placed on the side of her neck. The intimate embrace had her groaning. Obviously, she hadn’t been thinking. Her brain had been shorted out, disconnected, and thrown right into the bathwater.
How could she have let her guard down like that? The freedom had been fantastic, arousing and intoxicating as fine wine, but how could she have forgotten what had been happening to her? What had happened just this morning?
Had she… Oh, God. Had she done anything in her sleep? With Derek here?
“How long have I been out?” she asked in a rush.
“Not long.”
That rumbling voice was too disconcerting, too sexy. She had to look into his eyes. Tucking the sheet up high under her arms, she rolled over to face him. When she did, her breath caught in her chest. His short hair was mussed, and dark shadows lined his jaw. The bad boy look didn’t fit his character, but it was so incredibly hot she had to press her legs together.
Unable to help herself, she let her gaze drop. She took in the well-drawn lines of his body, his muscled chest and rippling abs, but the sheet sitting low on his hips wasn’t what made her look up again. It was the relaxed look on his face. She’d never seen him so calm, so relaxed, so at ease in the moment. It made her belly warm.
Relaxed had to be good, right? If she’d gotten up and danced zombie pirouettes around the bedroom, he wouldn’t be relaxed.
Or so obviously ready to make love to her again.

My review is coming soon- I know I am so behind... note to self, do not schedule reviews when you go out of town for 5 days. LOL But I'm already reading this one, so it should be up soon :)
