About THE HAZARDS OF SLEEPING WITH A FRIEND:

Warning: Sleeping with a friend might change your life forever.

Sleeping with Kyle was never in the plans. Pretending to be his girlfriend was one thing, but letting our relationship become anything but platonic was another. The problem with mixing friendship with sex is that inevitably feelings get involved, and when that happens there's no turning back.

When Kyle's life fell apart around him, I needed to help, but doing that meant opening myself up to the most terrifying thing in the world—falling in love.

Book Description:

Ally Dunn is a small town girl with big dreams planning a wedding that would never happen. Ally’s life revolved around being Eric’s wife…until she watched his best friend Isaiah step off that plane, his arm in a sling and Eric's casket behind him. Her grief consumed her, their last conversation not one filled with love but an argument over her favorite flower. He knew her favorite flower, he was just busy…fighting for his country. Isaiah made a promise to Eric, he would keep Ally safe even if that meant saving her from herself. Isaiah takes Ally away when her grief becomes too much but their return brings about something she never expected.

When Ally meets Colton Walker she knows her life will never be the same. She never planned to move on from Eric, the mere idea of moving on would send her into a panic. How do you move on from the man you loved, the man who shared your dreams, who made your heart feel whole? But Colton doesn’t push her, he doesn’t pressure her, he gives her everything she ever needed and he does it effortlessly.

Falling in love with Colton was like taking her next breath; she didn’t have to think about because it came naturally…only a cloud hangs over Ally. Isaiah trains her in Krav Maga, Eric trained her in gunfire. Colton sees all of this, asking the one question she can’t answer, why? Why would a woman who lives in such a small town need to know such aggressive self-defense? Isaiah vows to keep her safe, going so far as to track her every move…but why?

Surviving Eric’s death almost killed Ally, the hole in her heart never truly healed until Colton. Falling in love with Colton was easy, fighting for her life when everything she thought she knew was wrong…that was a completely different story.

Author Interview
First, tell me a little about your book ....
Help Me Move On is a book about a girl who makes a mistake like most of us do it just so happens her mistake ends up being one of the biggest mistakes of her life. She plans this dream wedding but she becomes so focused on the materialistic part that she forgets about what really matters until it's to late. When her fiancé dies Ally convinces herself that she won't move on. How do you really move on from your first love? She happily drowns herself in her guilt until Isaiah, Eric's best friend and fellow conrad takes her away. It's a trip Eric had promised to take her on, to travel to Uganda and work with the Peace Corp, and Isaiah uses this trip as a way to help Ally with her grief.

When Ally comes back from Uganda everything has changed, she walks into her house only to find not just her grandmother but Colton Walker. He's this tall, firefighting man with brown hair that hangs just above his shoulders and these eyes that look right through her. Colton challenges Ally and he questions everything she ever thought she knew. The only problem is she can't answer his questions. Like why does she need to know Krav Maga? Or why does Isaiah attack her when they train and why does he track her every move? Falling in love with Colton was like taking her next breath, it just happened. Fighting for her life when everything she thought she knew was wrong...now that's a completely different story.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated or did you always just know?
I think I always knew I wanted to be a writer but I was always waiting for the right time and when that perfect idea came I started.

What inspired you to write your first book and what was it?
My very first book was inspired by an ex-boyfriend who had serious issues and that book was Shadows of the Past. I should stress that this book was not an autobiography in any way. When I write I take little bits and pieces from people I know or experiences I've had and I blow them up! It's fun and I love it so what'll you do.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
All my books are related to someone I know. A story here or there will spark my imagination and the next thing you know I have this plan and a few months later I have a book.

How do you chose when/which characters die in your books?
Pure instinct takes over when it comes to this. I always want someone to die it's just a matter of when and I usually don't know until I'm there and then it hits me and I'll Skype my sister jumping up and down about who I'm going to kill and how. She finds it hilarious.

Who do you look up to as a writer?
Stephanie Meyer because she was one of the first writers that I read where there was deep rooted morals in the books. You don't see that a lot and I admire that.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your book?
In Help Me Move On no. The Southern Ties Series has been nit picked to death because I didn't want to rush it. I wanted to be happy with what I put out. Now with Shadows of the Past...that I'm reworking because after looking back I think I put it out to early.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Not necessarily my writing but the review process. I can get so many good reviews but when you can't get the good reviews on amazon or on Goodreads then no one really knows that your book is actually worth reading.

What book are you reading now? Or what genre?
My genre is probably always going to be romance. Sometimes I'll read a more steamy romance but at the end of the day it's the love story. I'm addicted to that feeling you get when you realize you've found the person you're meant to be with.

Who designed the cover? And do you help with them?
My cover came from a photographer - Richard Hill and his ability to capture a moment with such detail and expression.

Did you learn anything from writing your books and what was it?
I learned a lot about Krav Maga which was really fun because I decided to get more hands on and my husband was my guinea pig which was awesome!

If you could be one of your characters, who would you chose?
I really love Ally. I love the fact that she's not perfect and even though she's made all these mistakes she's still one of the strongest women I've ever created. I love the fact that she can kick serious ass and I love the fact she's a better shot than most men.

Are there any books you think some of us should read, just because?
The Significance Series.
Another series that's more paranormal but addictive. I swear I think it's the next Twilight and once you start you can't stop until you've read the entire series.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I know I'm not a well known author and that's okay. I'm happy with my anonymity but the reason I write isn't to become the next Stephanie Meyer or EL James for that matter. I write because I absolutely love it and I refuse to publish a book that I wouldn't want to read. I want my readers to love my books as much as I've loved writing them. I don't expect everyone to love my books because I don't love every book I read, it's okay. I'm grateful for every reader who so much as gives my book a chance. Good or bad reviews, I'm thankful.

Broken Souls Excerpt

Moving carefully so he wouldn’t startle her, he pulled the shirt over his head. Turning to the side, he dropped his eyes over his shoulder. At his nod, she reached for him. Slowly, softly, she explored him with feathery strokes that tickled yet sent his blood racing.
“Go ahead, darlin’. Look. Touch. Find your answers.”
Rori was treading on shaky ground, she knew that. He was beautiful. Perfect. His face was like a painting, a sculpture. The hard planes could seem cruel, but right now were softened by his emotions. Love? Patience? She didn’t know, but she knew one thing for sure. He wasn’t trying to hide now. He’d taken his shirt off, and she’d lost the use of her vocal chords. He was beautifully made; muscular without being massively huge, golden skin that begged for kisses… he turned so she could see him, and she froze. What would she do if he had wings sprouting from his shoulders?
“No wings?”
Grinning like a naughty little boy, he shook his head. “Sorry. No wings.” He captured her roaming hand and kissed it. “I have other mad skills though if you’d like me to demonstrate. For instance, I can make you hot.”
He placed her hands on his shoulders and busted out laughing when she snatched them back with a horrified gasp. What the hell? He was glowing! The harder he laughed, the more obvious the light became. She was trying to put some distance between them, but he wouldn’t let her. Instead, he reclaimed her hands and forced them flat against his chest.
He scolded, “Uh-uh. You wanted answers. Man up and get them. The light is my saol. It’s our life force, technically. You might consider it the source of my powers. You have one too; but yours isn’t strong like mine is. Yours is human.” The teasing smile vanished. “Mine isn’t. Anymore.”
He wasn’t human? This was getting better and better! She seriously needed to put some space between them. She couldn’t think straight.
He pressed her hand harder against his chest. “Do you feel that? That’s my heart beating just like yours does. Don’t be afraid of me, Rori. I’m here to protect you. It’s what I do. I tried to tell you that before, but you didn’t want to trust me then. Do you trust me now?”
That was a good question. Did she?
She studied the trees in the distance while she considered her answer. After all of the crazy things that had happened in the past few months, she had to admit he’d been there for her without asking for payment. Strangely enough, she didn’t think he was insane anymore. “I do.”
“I’m sensing a ‘but’.”
He was really, really hard to resist. She brushed his bangs back from his eyes. His mouth curled into a lopsided, sexy as all hell grin. The impact slammed all the way to her toes.
“You could melt butter with that smile. How do we mere mortals resist you?”
Flushing an adorable shade of pink, he choked on his snappy comeback before clamping his lips together in a line. Was he embarrassed? How cute was that? Grumbling under his breath, he reached for his shirt, and she shocked them both by stopping him.
“Wait! I want to look at you.” Did I say that out loud? Crap.
He shot her an incredulous look before dropping the shirt and pushing gracefully to his feet. He moved so fast she scooted backwards with a girly cry of alarm. The grin he wore this time was all heat, no humor. Slow, sexy… forget butter, her entire body might combust. Before she could squeak out a protest, he unsnapped his jeans and dropped them in a pile. Kicking out of them in a movement that was so smoothly done he must’ve practiced it, he hauled her upright with her mouth hanging open.
Not an ounce of material in sight.
“Uh… uh, Dec… I’m not sure--” She kept her eyes pasted on his chest. His muscles were nicely shaped, hard, tanned... flat nipples begged for a kiss.
Oh, yeah, he certainly looked human!
He stood in full naked glory, daring her to look lower. He gave her that sexy grin again. She backed up. He stalked forward until her back came up against the granite boulder. His bare chest brushed her breasts. Something hot and velvety brushed her belly. With her heartbeat pounding in her ears, she swallowed hard and placed her hands on his forearms. The hard muscle blazed at her touch. He had fine golden hair dusting across skin that she couldn’t resist caressing. Soft…
“Admit it. You wanted to know if I had all the correct equipment.” He was teasing her. She could tell by the humor in his voice, but he was so right. At that moment, she wanted to look down more than anything in the world.
He turned around and said over his shoulder, “I’ve been told I have a nice ass. What do you think?”
“Dec! You’re horrible! I am not looking at your ass!” But she couldn’t resist bursting into giggles at the lift of his eyebrows.
“Are you sure? I can stand here all day.”
“I’m sure you can.” A wistful sigh slipped out when she snagged a peek at his butt. Yum!
He was beside her so fast he was a blur. Lifting her chin, he winked before dropping a sweet kiss on her open mouth. “Don’t be so obvious. There’s time for us to get naked and hump like bunnies later. Right now, you need to recover your strength so you can keep up.”
With that he stepped into his jeans while she focused on his hands. Capable. Smooth. Hard. Those hands had nursed her, held her. How would they feel making love to her?
